“SLC / S21W3 : Teaching Practice”
Hello @everyone accept greetings special greeting from my mother land country Cameroon 🇨🇲 .It’s a great pleasure participating in this week3 lessons brought together by course facilitators.For us to share our views and experiences as teachers about “Teaching practice”.

As a teacher you is really in love with the profession with passion .You most have or developed a good skills to past out information for the students to best understand the lesson you have taught.It’s always the wish of every teacher or course facilitators to see their their students understanding the lessons given and passing so well.
Now as a teacher do you have the skills to teach the students to understand well .Alots of teachers are very knowledgeable, intelligent and have a good mastery of their subjects.But, to passed the knowledge to students if very difficult .I can be the manner of expression or teaching .In the below section, I will be sharing my thoughts focused on the guided question for us to provides answers.I hope you all will find pleasure reading through my post 👇🏼.
Iam a certified secondary school by the ministry of secondary education of my country Cameroon .My field of speciality is History . History is divided into three branches as from Form3, we have Cameroon ,African and World history. My classes I teaches are Form4 ,Form5 and lower sixth class. With all the branches of history listed above .
I will have a lesson with form4 today in African history Topic “The Berlin West African Conference of November 1884 to February 1885”. I already prepared my students mind to read on this topic before I come for the lesson .This was done in my previous class when I finished the topic the “European Scramble for Africa”.Today according to my time of teaching I have 1 hour of teaching .This particular topic is broad topic and take three different classes to finished the topic.
Today I have prepared to introduce the Berlin west African conference highlighting the various key participants , Reason for the summoning of Berlin conference and the resolution of the Berlin conference.I always make my lesson prepared for the day should align with the number hours or minutes allocated for that period.
Most teachings think that learning only begins with the students first in all the lessons to be taught .I will say learning begins with you the course facilitators making sure you get the mastery of what you you are to teach .For the day before entering the class and make good simple notes that students won’t find difficulty to read.
Next, after the above mentioned am prepared for my class and lesson to be taught. My class is to be for an hour, I start by asking some few questions to students about the previous knowledge what I taught in the last class.This always enable me as a teacher to know if the students understood s the lessons or not.Of course know where they lacking .
Immediately, I discover majority are not able to give me any previous knowledge I taught .I cautioned my students to be serious and always reads .Then, take 5minutes of my lesson to do a summary lecture of what I taught in the previous class .Before I can introduce the the lesson for the day .Which is the Berlin West African Conference. Now my class is always teacher-students centered interactions .
I start by introducing the lessons with history it deals with events , dates and key actors .Making my students to know these. .Otto von Bismarck the German chancellor and the Jules ferry the French prime minister where core people who organized the Berlin conference.I make my students to understand Berlin was the capital of Germany. I give the course or reasons that led to Berlin conference, which to end colonialism and conflicts instigated by Europe who where scrambling to acquire territories in Africa.
Then , made the students to know the Berlin conference was then now organized by these key actors .To lay down guidelines rule European needs to follow in order to acquire territories in Africa without conflicts amongst themselves.
Also, I prints pictures of the key actors who summoned the Berlin conference to show my students while giving lectures and locate Berlin through map and show them .At times I can decide just to use my laptop and show them . When am done with lectures .
I give 3minutes for questions and I asked the students by calling them by their names randomly to tell me what they have learned from today’s lesson .Before I can start di ring notes for them to copy .After , end my class giving my students the next lessons to be read at home .Incase when I come to teach they are not blank.
To know if your students after learning activity have changed in cognitive , effective and psychological aspects .I mentioned in the above question that,I was have some minutes 3minutes for questions from students focused on what I have taught and then I do clarification of any doubt from the students to answer their worries.
While ,teaching I know some my students who are very slow to assimilate knowledge.I make sure I called them time to time to answer questions.This is draw more of their attention in the lesson and make sure they assimilate knowledge effectively .As a teacher especially me that I don’t have so many students in my class .It’s very easy for to know what each students lacks .While teaching I make sure I try to intergrate all in the lessons to follow up.
Incase I have group discussions during my lessons .What I do is that I paired students who are intelligent.With slow learners, during discussion I dwell more with slow learners if they are picking the tips of the discussion fast . In addition, through cognitive, effective and psychological motor to really make sure they are changes with this students . I decided to give a small individual after my lessons to taste how effectively everyone has understood what I taught.
At the end of the end of the day my classes will always end by giving an assessments to students to keep them busy .This makes students to read and also, more .
I earlier mentioned methods and strategies of a teacher will always be developed first by a teacher before coming to coming to school.The truth is a teacher I develope learning strategies depending students I teach in class.I always study their characters and the level of their understanding to know which strategies I can use for the students to better understand the lessons .
It’s very simple if I use a strategy and it does not work for my students.I see them not performing well therefore , I will need to change the strategies and use another one I think can go for teaching .We also , need to know students take time to adapt , so my strategy me not work they way want or may not be the way I expected to be .
I will say methods and strategies of teaching will solely depend on the students .Teachers cannot imposed any strategies to be taught because it might not work .
Iam just done from teaching my form4 students .I discovered I still have 10minutes lefts .I decided to give them a small excercise to work on base on the lesson I taught today .To see if they really understood the lessons well.
I do this once I a while in some lessons.To really know what the students are lacking and where they needs help .This make the teacher to also know which kind of method .He or she can use in teaching or to work with the students effectively.
It’s always a joy of every teacher to see their students successfully performing well .I have come to the end of my presentation I will invites @solaymman ,@crismenia and @josepha to participate in this contest .
