SLC | S22W5 : Teachers as examples and role models
Good day, my beloved Steemian friends! This week, our instructor, @miftahulrizky, covered two important facts about social skills and personality. Even though I am not a teacher now, this will help us to shape our grandchildren. As everyone knows, personality and social functions play a major role in education. Being role models requires us to be more mindful of the things we say and teach. Therefore, this tutorial is quite valuable, particularly for teachers. Now let’s move to my assignments.
After understanding the course material, explain why teachers need to be examples and role models for students, and how much influence does this have on student behavior and character?
One important characteristic of children is imitation; it may be from their parents, siblings, or other family members. In this way, when they are in school, they are compelled to imitate their teachers. Hence, teachers need to be good examples to their students, because students look up to them. When a teacher is unkind to their students, the students also share their cruelty among others. When teachers behave well, students learn to do the same. This helps students grow with good values like honesty and respect. If a teacher shows kindness and discipline, students often imitate these traits and build their own strong character. Therefore, it is essential teachers serve as role models for their students.
Each teacher has a different character and personality, name as many negative behaviors that you are aware of in yourself while teaching. 3 Points
Negative behaviors
I experienced the below-mentioned negative behaviors with my teachers.
Some teachers become angry quickly while they are teaching. Therefore, they lose their patience, and it is difficult to control them. This badly affects their students.
Some teachers distract their concentration during the lesson. They might be thinking of a past incident or domestic dispute. This also badly affects children's education.
Some teachers do not concentrate on student’s problems. They are never ready to listen to students; therefore, students become helpless.
Some teachers favor certain students over others. Beautiful and wealthy students are served with unique spoons, whereas ugly and poor pupils use different spoons.
As a good teacher, this type of character should not be demonstrated. This type of action can make students feel upset or ignored.
Share with us examples of positive attitudes or exemplary behaviors that you have implemented in your daily life with students? What educational values are contained in these behaviors
Positive attitudes.
It is essential to greet students with a big smile every morning. That will demonstrate our kindness to the students.
It is essential to listen to the student without interrupting their problems. This will show our teaching empathy to the students.
When students make any mistake, it is essential to stay calm and patient. That will show our patience.
When grading students, we need to be fair. That will show our honesty and justice to the students.
Helping students to work together when they work on group projects. This will teach them teamwork and unity.
What benefits do you feel from the exemplary behavior you have shown so far, has it had a positive impact on the behavior and character of your students?
Indeed, being a good example has many benefits to the teacher. When teachers become good examples, the students automatically try to respect them and trust them. They also try to be honest, kind, and disciplined like teachers. When the teacher becomes patient, students also learn that quality. When teachers show their positive behavior, the students become proficient in the subject that teachers are teaching. Students get higher grades in those subjects. As they are lovingly dealing with that subject. It became not only their favorite subject but also a higher grading subject.
This will make the classroom a happy place where everyone feels safe and encouraged to learn.
