Education Map #5 - "Royal Prestige Academy, Uyo, Nigeria"

Gone to a school where discipline is forefront? You see it on the walls and in the way the students and pupils behave. I'll use Google maps to trace this school in my City though the area the school is located in is more rural than urban. These schools aren't as prominent as other schools that make themselves visible on Google maps and are known by many as landmarks.

If I'm to mention Tower of Ivory Schools, everyone would know but hearing Royal Prestige, it may be difficult for one to decipher which school it is or where it's located. So I'll be pinning this school on Steem-atlas to make it visible and that's what I've resolved to do in every school review I make. Won't go for the prominent places but for those whose voices are barely heard and location made less public. I'll be going rural. With me on Steem-atlas is ROYAL PRESTIGE ACADEMY.

Unfortunately, the school isn't on Google maps. I just had to trace it using its streets. You know a good school by its structure. I know it's said that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover but many today are attracted to schools by the building. Let's talk about the structure of this school.

Structure and Size

I would say this school is big. They don't need to hire an event center to run inter-house sports because it has the capacity to do such. The school is a storey-building that is enlarged in width. It's just one partitioned building with an enlarged front and side. I may not know how many square meter the school is but it's spacious. They have two fields, one for football and the other for assembly when necessary.

I actually think with these spaces, they can raise up structures for facilities like canteen, assembly hall and the likes which they lack. The walls of the building are made with cement blocks and are painted with Grey and white colours. These colours are the colours of their day wear and uniform.

Talking about sizes in terms of classrooms and other facilities, I'll give them a thumbs up for considering class size as a private school and making it comfortable for students with Windows by every corner. One thing I love about their display is in the name of the school. They placed it up high to be visible to parents who may want their children to school there.

Security Post

The security post is by the right-hand side of the school, not directly opposite its building. Once you enter the gate, the first facility you see there is the security post for the gatekeeper. He stays there to keep watch over the movement these school children. He protect the school from unauthorized access or theft and is always in the school all day long till 6pm.

This security post has a toilet and a portable room size where the gatekeeper can choose to stay if his distance from school to his residence area is far.. Pupils do wait for their parents in the security post and whenever a parent comes to pick up a child, the security post confirms the person is either the parent or guardian. In recent times, there have been cases of kidnapping, springing from unknown guardians who come to take people's children in a disguise that they were sent. The security personnels involve ensure they check this.

During the COVID-19 era where washing of hands were necessary, the school management made arrangements for an external wash hand sink with soap and sanitizers stationed by the security post. As you come in, you wash your hands before entering the school. The wash-hand sink is still there though not useful.

VP Office

I don't know why most VP offices are placed like a receptionist office where it's the first office you get to see before other offices. I've seen this in most schools. The VP office though I got the view from an angle is the first office in this school where the Vice Principal meets with parents, listens to complaints, directs parents to the principal of need be or rather receive information from the principal to the parent. He acts in the absence of the principle and stands in for him when there's important information to be delivered. In this case, the VP is a lady, a mother. She does the job of a Vice when the principal is indisposed.

The school is actually an academy because it has both Nursery , Primary and Secondary. The VP office isn't spacious and has seats for parents and other bodies to sit. The principal office is barely seen anywhere close except it's a small school. This is for security reasons.

Nursery and Primary Classroom

The nursery and primary classrooms are located on the ground floor of the building while the secondary level have their classrooms on the first floor. The use of whiteboard is implemented as blackboard with chalk are outdated teaching materials. The classrooms are quite sizeable with desk and chairs for the pupils to sit on. The design on the classroom and colour makes it warm even when the temperature is high.

Playground

The school has a comfortable playground for the young ones in primary section. This playground houses swings, see-saws and circus turner as we do call it. These play equipment reminds me of when I was little. I love the see-saws but I'm always afraid of heights because the see-saws in my primary school were high and one can easily fall off if care isn't taken.

..The swing reminds of the mark I have on my forehead which is very prominent and outstanding. Because of my love for this swing, I lost focus and then hit my head hard on the metal seat.

The playground serves as a useful tool to incite students whenever they are in break. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy. With these, they get to play in turns.

Challenges the school faces

One major challenge the school face is computer room. I wasn't allowed to enter the computer room and library because it was under maintenance. They needed to renovate the place and also add computers and possibly solar panels to power these computers in the absence of electricity. They told us that they are working on it though finances has been a major setback in achieving their plans.

The children had their practical classes paused because of lack of enough computers and light to power these computers. I hope they get to it soon. Since they have no canteen, I can't tell the least price of snack sold there but I can relate other fees as to tuition fee and others.

Miscellaneous

The school has two 18-seater buses to convey the children from far places to their homes or children that has busy guardians. The school buses are quick comfortable and I salute the driver for maintaining it in such a way. The school came into existence in the year 2018 and with prior knowledge, their school fees for both primary and secondary are stated below.

They have books and uniforms for sale which are channeled in the overall fees of their students. If your child lives around this axis and you're looking for a good school, i bet this school has what you're looking for even though they are trying to fix their labs and library.

Charitable activity in the school

I knew the school through the charitable activity some Steemians and I are on, sponsored by @worldsmile. Our goal is to make children smile by sustainably giving them what they can eat either when the return from school or the next day. Reasons being that most children in the rural areas barely eat when the return from school till it's night and most barely eat when the leaves for school till they are back. So I was live in this school.

It's not just about the school but about the quality of their teaching. The teachers there are tested, certified and qualified to teach. I have friends in that school and from their performances, I can attest to the fact that even though it's Rural in location, it's Urban in what it has to offer. Learning environment isn't close to busy roads or churches, security is a priority and the environment is serene and conducive for learning.

My goal is to put these local schools that has less privileges of being pinpointed in maps
