FINAL SPACE: Definitely not what I was expecting
Interesting show is a colossal understatement. I came in thinking it was gonna be this Rick & Morty esque, Netflix comedy in space rip off where I'll crack a few laughs and it'll be easy watching. BOY I WAS WRONG. ADULTSWIM NEVER FAIL TO AMAZE
Final Space follows the story of Gary Goodspeed and his time on the Galaxy One, a prison spaceship for a crime he committed 4 years, 11 months and 2 weeks before episode 1. He was given a 5 year sentence and in his last week, he finds MOONCAKE or E-351, a little tiny green blob that happens to be.....A PLANET KILLER (kinda like a portable, cute and squishy DEATH STAR). It then follows the journey of these two together, meeting zany characters adding to "Captain" Gary's crew as they partake in somewhat silly, heavily improvised and highly entertaining adventures together.
Not knowing the implications of E-351, Gary treats him as a little pet and doesn't realise that the LORD COMMANDER (voiced by David Tennant) is after Mooncake to use his power to create "FINAL SPACE".
Then combining the adventures of Gary with the incredibly slick and vastly detailed backstories for SO MANY CHARACTERS, this show is soooooo much more than its comedy. Whether it is the Lord Commander, Gary, Quinn, Avocato or Trivore, the arcs these characters develop and stories they have to tell of the corrupt systems they are apart of, the rash consequences they face and ultimatums they are put through catch you so far off-guard and are something that could come out of vintage Star-Trek.
Highly recommend if you are a big Sci-Fi or should I say 'Sify' lover. Definitely not what you would expect from its trailer but DO NOT JUDGE THE BOOK BY ITS COVER.
CHOOKITY POK
i love the little "chookity!" guy. I really enjoyed this show as well, it falls in line with my style of humor perfectly.
Ye mooncake is class. CHOOKITY's at just the right moments. It has some classic awkward repetitive behaviour comedy derived from things such as Abbott and Costello but also has some very slick references and well crafted jokes
