RE: Team Europe’s Missing Mission (Report #2)
Big thanks! :)
Well, certainly there are profiteers everywhere, but here the society had been repressed for decades and probably still needs many years to learn to self-heal and remove the splinters asap... Our society isn't so united as those in Germany, France, even Greece. People here don't go out on the streets to strike so much...
For instance, as of August, all prices must be declared in both EUR and BGN, for an year, I think. Some already pumped the prices, as in August it may be a bit more obvious and some might be fined for that.
Guess what... people complain of facebook but still buy.
Another example - there were a few boycotts organized to the big food store chains like Kaufland and Lidl (those are the biggest in Bulgaria) as some of the items they sell were up to 100% more expensive compared to the prices in Germany.
The first boycott has some minor success - reported BGN 1M less turnover.
The next boycotts - guess again - in the days of the boycotts, the turnover of the chains was even bigger than normal as they were prepared and increased their "discount offers". I saw some people getting interviewed on TV, saying "why not buy, it is cheaper today".
So, people, society, communities here are ... so slow.
Another instance - the other day I saw on TV people from a small village go on strike and block a major road for few hours. The reason - they didn't have water supplied from November. That's more than 6 months, Gosh...
Long story short - the first months after adopting the EUR will be nightmare-ish...
However, I know for sure it is for the best in the long run, even for one single reason - local politicians and "businessmen" will have one tool less to play with and manipulate the market - the local currency :)))
