My traveling part 15 🇲🇾 : Hainan Chee Meng Chicken Rice
Hello Stemian friends, on this occasion I would like to invite you all to enjoy one of the favorite culinary in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This restaurant is called Hainan Chee Meng Chicken Rice. Although it sounds like one of the Chinese restaurants, take it easy, all the food here has received halal certification from the local government.

On a previous trip, my wife and I had sought out this restaurant to enjoy the food here. However, unfortunately we went too late in the evening and by the time we arrived, the restaurant was already closed. Then, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, we rescheduled our visit to this place. We arrived here at 17:38 local time. Luckily, on this trip the restaurant was still open and ready to serve us.
I myself initially didn't know much about this restaurant, why it was so special and that many tourists from Indonesia had reviewed the place on TikTok. I only heard from my wife that it was one of the famous food stalls, so she was eager to eat there.
However, after I found out about this restaurant on TikTok and saw the videos they shared, I became interested. One of the things that intrigued me was learning that Chee Meng's Hainanese Chicken Rice has been around since 1965. Of course, since it has been around for so long, it must be delicious. But is it really as delicious as people tell me? Let's see.
As we arrived in front of Chee Meng Hainanese Chicken Rice, we could notice that the food stall was very simple. It is shaped like a shophouse with one door. In front of the restaurant is a halal label. Although it is a Chinese restaurant, some of the workers wear headscarves or are Muslim.
Also, they sell chicken, so we don't have to worry too much about the halal status. If we talk about halal in terms of presentation, we can see firsthand how they serve it in front of us. Everything looks clean, neat and hygienic.
If we pay attention to the chicken hanging in front of the stall, we can observe that the chicken is very large. The chicken meat is also so thick, unlike the chicken we usually eat.
Without waiting too long, we immediately went inside and sat on the empty seats. After sitting down, the waiter kindly approached us and gave us a list of their menu. The waiter then offered us to order the half chicken portion, as it contained more meat.

We agreed to order that portion and we also ordered the fried prawns. As usual, for drinks we ordered teh tarik, a Malaysian favorite.
Without having to wait long, our order was made. This shows how fast the service is. We couldn't wait to taste the food that had been placed on the table.
After tasting a few pieces of the chicken, we could really taste the thick, tender and juicy meat. I was curious as to how they raise this chicken.
However, my wife was able to explain that the chicken is cooked by boiling it in their own flavored broth. After that, the broth is also used to cook the rice.
So it is only natural that the rice here is slightly yellowish in color. As it turned out, after I enjoyed the rice, it really tasted delicious because the chicken broth had been added. Of course, the flavor of the seasoning feels very delicious on the tongue.
After finishing my meal, I immediately went to the cashier and paid. The total bill that we had to pay today was quite expensive. We spent 111 Malaysian Ringgit or about 164 Steem (Steem price based on Sunday price, March 2, 2025).
The high price made me regret it after tasting the food here. I don't blame anyone, but I shouldn't have been tempted by the waiter's offer. In addition, this will be my experience in the future so that I ask the price first before ordering something.

Thus this article, hopefully useful and inspiring all who read it. Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to comment.
