Adagio

As the soft B sounded off the first violins playing Barber's Adagio, she breathed in. The moment would come for the cello to bring the melody a stronger, more solemn tone. On her mind, the smell of his hair on the day he boarded the army's C47 bound to Honolulu and the tears she forced herself not to shed in that unplanned goodbye on the first days of the war.

The music swayed sadly and she couldn't help but let the tears she kept through the years roll silently down her face. It took them over a decade to find his body in an island with an unpronounceable name, lost, in the middle of the Pacific. Inside an ammo box, next to his body, they had found a letter with her name on it:

"My dear Louise, love of my life. I am writing this, that will be my last letter to you, as we are surrounded and don't expect to last until daybreak. Just know that my last thoughts are of you and our unborn child. If it turns out to be a boy, name him after me.
All my love, Charles"

The crowd let out a roaring applause as the music ended and Charlie, her Charlie, held his cello upright and bowed. "Your father would have been proud" - she thought, as she stood and clapped her hands - "he would have been so proud"...

Your story has everything it needs, a bouquet of feelings about love, life accompanied by music. The though of father being proud might be enough. I hope she had a life, a companion although it sounds she never met a new love.

Welcome to Steemit and the freewriters.

Thanks for your kind comment .I recon it's kind of super short, and could be developed further, yes. I just felt it was enough to have a structure and leave a wide room for the readers to imagine the inbetweens. Hey... Maybe someone can grab it and come up with their own story.
Cheers.

It's totally fine with me. Short is not per se worse especially not on Steemit where the average person doesn't like to read. Your story contains a lot of information and is worth the read and what I like is to think it over and the fact not everything is spelled out. Room for my imagination.
Btw, the free writers support writing without a storyline, just type what pops up and it's totally fine if you only write for 5-10 minutes.

Do you like anyone to continue the story or make a contest out of it?

Sorry for the delay. I ran out of steem. If you think it's worth the go, I'm all for it. Yes. It would be great to see the variations that can come out of that adagio. :)

I delegated 25 SP to you (my account wakeupkitty.pal) since I noticed you like to comment.
You can engage and grow a bit and let me know how, what and when. I need to save a bit but can sponsor SP.
Enjoy Steemit!

Thank you so much.
I have a new story written and was waiting to publish it. Now, I can do it.
Yes. I love to interact. I get lots of ideas out of it and also learn a lot. It's not just to waste the words away.
Thank you once again. Steem on!
