Somehow, this story reminds me of you. I hope you have a better employer than Ricardo had.
I recognise these types of people very well, but also the workaholics willing to sacrifice all their time in the hope of building a career. Ricardo did a wise thing, and for sure he will find a like-minded person. Nothing is worse than doing something that is against the own norms and values. It will eat you and no job pays well enough to ignore that.
