A workshop is a long interactive meeting or educational session designed to create a specialized result. Workshops are longer than the typical business meeting and require more preparation beforehand. Link
The major reason why I love a workshop is that it has a specific objective it hopes to achieve and it is usually practical, hence the name workshop. It is like a training that teaches you a particular subject and provides room for you to showcase what you've been taught.
I have attended quite a few workshop and some of them have been helpful while some others did not really achieve what they said they would. A workshop takes time to plan, because if the objective is not achieved then you just wasted your time organizing a workshop.
You plan on how your objectives can be achieved with your team and put measures in place to make sure it is a success. I really enjoy workshops with a detailed and effective content.
