Do you believe in having expectations and setting boundaries in a relationship?

My personal opinion is that love alone is not enough to build a strong relationship, but it is also necessary to establish some basic rules, boundaries and expectations based on respect and mutual consent. Because we humans have to live by correcting our mistakes.

I strongly believe that setting expectations and boundaries does not mean chaining the relationship but rather creating a safe space where two people can respect each other and build love. Therefore, it is important to respect it because love is within us.

Craft a debate or a real life story to buttress you point.

Tanvir and Arifa are both architects and graphic designers. Both of them are used to busy professional lives. At the beginning of their relationship, they were respectful and generous to each other. But gradually Arifa started to realize that Tanvir often returned home late at night and she was deprived of her personal time or communication with friends.

One day Arifa said that I don't want any rights over your time. But I want you to at least let me know when you will be late. I don't want to worry about the unknown.

The human values ​​and sense of responsibility among the characters in the story portray a realistic picture of life. Therefore, it is important to maintain good thoughts and an honest attitude in any situation in life.

ADVANTAGES	✅

Psychological safety is created :- Basically, setting expectations and boundaries means that two people know when and where to behave, which reduces uncertainty.

Freedom and personal space are maintained :- If there are clear boundaries, there is no need to control each other, but both can keep their own hobbies, friendships, and time.

Conflict is reduced :- It is seen that many times big arguments over small matters can be avoided if some things are fixed in advance through agreements.

Trust is built :- Basically, when one person keeps his promises and the other person abides by his limits, trust is naturally born.

DISADVANTAGES	❌

Can become overly controlling :- If one person interferes with the other's every move in the name of setting boundaries, the relationship can become suffocating.

Spontaneity can be lost :- If everything is predetermined, a mechanical relationship takes over, which reduces the space for romance or new experiences.

High expectations cause stress :- Basically, many times someone expects too much that the other person is unable to fulfill. Then frustration arises in the relationship.

Finally, I think setting boundaries and expectations does not mean ruling the relationship, but it is about respecting each other's emotions, personality, and freedom. Yes, there are some difficulties in this, but they can be easily overcome with a mature perspective and open discussion. In fact, a good relationship is not just about love, but also a friendly bond based on mutual understanding, respect, and balance. And the main strength of that bond is the proper management of boundaries and expectations. I hope you all understand.
