Quite an Ants nest
This ant hill or whatever you want to call it has been being built for a few weeks now, I really don't know how it withstood the heavy rains we had a couple of weeks ago. But ants are hardy, I know that for sure. The funny thing is this is a block and a half from my house on a quite busy street. And I think the sidewalk is hollow because they have an embassy right in the middle of it. I think these arw what here we call sompopos, they are not aggressive and they just go about there business. They luckily are not fire ants.
Now this is what we see on surface level, I have no idea how deep this thing goes, I bet it is real deep. Once, some twenty years ago, I was working on a banana farm and one of these hills popped up, but that one was monstrous, about fifty meters long and in parts it must have been two meters high. the general manager ordered the guy in charge of spraying for nematodes to spray the ant colony and get it over with. This was done and no ants were seen for two days, then they were back. Nothing could kill those things, that ant hill might still be there.
One thing, it started raining since yesterday and I passed by and saw no ants. i guess they close up to prevent water from filtering in. Or maybe I am giving them too much credit, who knows.
I have always liked watching ants, the way they work is really something. I guess they to work for a better life.
