Taman Sari Gunongan was built during the leadership of Sultan Iskandar Muda in 1607 - 1636 as a form of his love for a woman named Putri Kamalilah. This gunongan can be interpreted as an artificial mountain. This gunongan was used by Putri Kamalilah who was the empress at that time to play with the dayang - dayang in that place.

Gunongan consists of two white buildings. The first, the Great White Building, is the empress's bathhouse, about 9 meters high, built around the 17th century and shaped like an octagon. At first glance, the Gunongan building looks like a flower with three layers inside. The entrance, which is about 1.5 meters high, is on the side leading to the central part featuring a stone pillar.

Next to the large white building, there is a small white building in the shape of a rock. These rocks are well carved and beautiful. The center has a passable entrance and history states that this place was used by the empress to shampoo her hair after bathing.

When I visited Gunongan, the beauty of the place was mesmerizing. Everything is well preserved and maintained. The side of the gunongan still has a river flowing from Mata Ie to the Krueng Aceh river. The stone carvings and paints are also very well maintained. The Krueng Daroy River can also still be enjoyed by the people of Banda Aceh from Putroe Phan Park and Meuligoe Governor of Aceh.

Cagar Gunongan

Cagar Gunongan is part of the gunongan sari park. This reserve is also the playground of the empress of Sultan Iskandar Muda and until now it is still guarded by officers and managed properly. Currently the reserve functions for education and historical materials that tell about the leadership of Sultan Iskandar Muda.
