My Family Recipe
Family most cherished recipe is more than just a meal; it is true indication of love, joy and connection within loved ones. The unique taste of the recipe, cultural/ traditional significance, and togetherness are what made family recipes to be cherished.

For the purpose of this contest, I will be sharing one of the recipes that is well cherished by my family. This recipe is called NATIVE SAUCE which can be prepared with many ingredients but fresh tomato, fresh pepper, palm oil and fish are four most important ingredients.
This sauce was originated from Yoruba, Nigeria as pepper sauce which they named; "Ata Dindin" but the South-south people of Nigeria called it native sauce.
For my special recipe, I added extra ingredients ( veggies) to make the sauce more yummy and healthy.
Here are the ingredients used;
Raw Ingredients
- Fresh tomatoes
- Fresh pepper
- Onions
- Palm oil
- Dried fish
- Cow skin
- Bell pepper
- Green peas
- Curry leaf
- Salt
- Maggi
- Thyme
- Curry powder
Native sauce is very simple to prepare but time consuming. Let's find out what makes it time consuming during the preparation process.

Step 1: wash and blend fresh tomatoes, pour it into a pot and boil until the water dries up. It takes 20-30 minutes for the tomato to boil and dry up the water depending on the quantity.

Step 2: heat up pan, pour palm oil and add onions when the oil is hot.

Step 3: add fresh tomatoes and blended fresh pepper and cover to boil for at least 8 minutes. It is important to boil palm oil properly so it doesn't taste sour in the mouth.

Step 4: add curry powder and thyme.

Step 6: add fish and cow skin then a little water to enable the ingredients cook properly.

Step 7: add green peas and green bell pepper. Allow it to boil for 1 minute before adding curry leaf.

Allow the sauce to boil for at least 1 minute before turning off the gas.

This sauce can be served with white rice, all kinds of pastas, yam, plantain, potatoes and white beans. My family likes this sauce because it can be combined or served with the above listed foods with ease. After preparing the sauce, I served it with boiled sweet potatoes for dinner and the taste brought same joy as always.

However, I will prepare some here in Ghana. The only thing i might not add is Maggi. Apart from that, i am going to do exactly what you have described here. I will show you my results soon.
