Promo Steem: First Worldwide Steem Newspaper
Intro
Since few days I am thinking about creating the event which could bring new users, investors and make Steemit even more attractive for old Steemians. My idea is to create the newspaper with the most interesting articles from Steemit. Newspaper would be published weekly in pdf and could be available for every user to print and share with their friends.
How would that work:
1️⃣ First of all I will talk with admins of all the biggest communities on steemit, offering partnership. If some community will join the event, each week I will prepare special contest for the best article and admins would have to pin it to the page.
2️⃣ I will make contest with 10 steem of reward in every community which will agree to join.
- Contest will last for one week
- everyone who wants to participate will have to agree for publishing their content in electronic and paper version of the newspaper
- all the articles will have to be written in English
If admins of mentioned groups will agree, I was thinking to engage that communities:
- "world of Xpilar": contest for the photo which will be published on the cover
- "Photography": contest for the best photo relation of some event
- "Dance and music": contest for the best article about dance/music
- "Art": contest for the best biography of some artist
- "Writing and reviews": contest for the best book review
- "Steem foods": contest for the best recipe
- "Steel healthcare": contest for the best article about health
- "secret beauty": contest for the best beauty tips
- "world of football": contest for the most important football news of the week / contest for footballer biography
- "world of cricket": contest for the most important cricket news / contest for cricket player biography
- "steem women club": contest for the best article for or about women (important women in your region, feminism, fashion, anything else women related)
- "steem gaming": contest for the best game review
- "project HOPE": contest for the best article about cryptocurrencies
- "travelfeed": contest for the best travel publication
- "Netflix and streaming": contest for the best movie/series review
- "steem geology": contest for the best article about some interesting region
- "zero to infinity": contest for the best article about science
- communities from different countries: contests for the most important news from your region (understanding as the continent, not necessarily only from one country)
- "Lifestyle", "Steemit city", "Steeming community": contest for the best article, any topic
3️⃣ After the week I will announce the winners and start preparing the Newspaper with the articles which won. The same time I will publish next edition of the contest
4️⃣ After another week I will publish the newspaper in pdf ready to read and to print. Newspaper will be totally CC, no rights reserved, everyone can print it and share with the others. Since that moment Newspaper will be published weekly
Benefits
Why would admins agree to participate:
- I will be responsible for the rewards so it doesn't cost them anything (although if they want to increase the reward by adding few extra STEEM or SBD, great)
- more contests means more users and more active community
- articles will be linked with the communities in the electronic version of the newspaper, so it's an additional promotion for the community
Why would contestants agree to participate:
- winners will be rewarded with 10 STEEM
- for the glory; they can be more popular on steemit community and above, as their articles will be printed all around the world
Why would Curators agree to support the project:
- printed and electronic version of the newspaper shared with the others may bring the investors, new users and make Steemit much more popular
- Steemit would be the first Cryptocurrency portal in the world which has it's own newspaper
- if many users will decide to print and share the newspaper, conventional media might be interested in making the articles about it which means even more advertisement.
My work schedule
If that project will be accepted, it would be probably my full time job and I won't have much time for other activity here.
First Monday I will announce new contests in multiple communities which will last for a week.
I will be reading articles sent to me every day to optimize my work. It could be impossible to read everything in one day.
Next Monday I will announce the winners, send the rewards and will start making the Newspaper which will be published one week later. I will use that time to create the newspaper in electronic and paper version.
Let me explain it on the example:
31st May:
- announcing 1st edition of the contests
1st June - 5th June:
- reading entries of the participants
6th June:
- announcing winners of the 1st edition
- announcing 2nd edition of the contest
7th June - 12th June:
- reading entries of the participants
- making 1st edition of the Newspaper
- printing and distributing paper version of the newspaper in my city
13th June:
- announcing winners of the 2nd edition
- Announcing 3rd edition of the contest
- Publishing 1st number of the Newspaper
14th June - 19th June:
- reading entries of the participants
- making 2nd edition of the Newspaper
- printing and distributing paper version of the newspaper in my city
20th June:
- Announcing winners of the 3rd edition
- Announcing 4th edition of the contest
- Publishing 2nd number of the Newspaper
21st June - 26th June:
- reading entries of the participants
- making 3rd edition of the Newspaper
- printing and distributing paper version of the newspaper in my city
...
The Newspaper will be published in every post with new contests so members of each community which will participate in the program will have an easy access to it.
I am going to create special community where all the archival numbers will be published, to make it more accessible for everyone.
What more besides articles
What else will be in the newspaper:
- Every number of the newspaper will have one page with the infographic about steemit - it will be explained what is steemit, how to join us, how to earn the money here. Our Steemians already know it but that way we can get new users
- we can make another advertisement which will be encouraging the companies to accept SBD and Steem as the payment for their services
- As I'm in love with the idea of Steemit Market, we could also promote some random product which is published there
Let's all print it
We could make another contest with the reward for the person who will print the newspapers and share it with the biggest number of people:
- it can be shared with the friends, family, coworkers
- you can leave it in the public libraries, bookcrossing areas
- you can leave it in the hotels and hostels
- you can leave it in the language schools (especially if you don't live in English speaking country)
- you can leave it in any other place where it's not prohibited
Budget
Every week I will need STEEM for making the contests. The amount of STEEM will depend on number of communities which will participate in the project, but I assume it will be 200-250 STEEM weekly for the contests.
I saved 310 STEEM in SBD and STEEM which I am ready to use in the first edition but to make it work, I would need sponsors. As the special thank, they could be mentioned in every contest post and on the first pages of the newspaper.
If there will be more money than it's needed from the sponsors, extra STEEM can be used by me for printing the newspaper and leaving it in strategical places in Rosario.
I can make weekly report where I explain how do I use the money from donations. If it will include printing the newspaper, I can provide scans of all the bills.
I would treat the up-votes as my salary for the work but if there will be not enough sponsors, partially I could provide the money for the rewards from my earnings. I'm Minnow though, I might not be able to do it totally on my own, so if it would be possible, I'd like to ask steemcurator01 for up-voting that contests sometimes.
Every time when I will be withdrawing earned money (assuming I will be able to earn money on that), I can spend 25% of my total income on promotion (printing the newspapers and sharing it with others).
So the budget for printing in Rosario would include:
- donations after providing rewards for the community
- 25% of my earnings from all the publications on Steemit
What do you think? Is this idea worth trying?
What should I change? I'm very opened for constructive critic.
Would you be interested in hosting the contests as the admins of your groups or participating in it as regular users?
Would anyone be interested in donating for that kind of project?
If I will start it, I will spend all my savings on it, so I prefer to discuss it well before.

I powered up my steem, but I still have my SBD which I'm saving.
If @steemcurator01 team won't be interested in supporting the project, I should have enough savings to give it a try for a week anyway. I'm working hard to save more, so I could invest more in that project in the future.
I also tried to contact with @pennsif . Waiting for response. If they won't be interested in partnership, I'm ready to create the community where I'll be publishing my newspaper and do it on my own :)

But, in my personal opinion, creating a website specifically for steemnews is better, because it's easier and doesn't cost a lot of money.
maybe you can ask @pennsif, so far he has made a lot of steemnews on his steemit blog. I think it would be better if you collaborated with him.
True, it's relatively expensive. Cost of the contests is 200-250 Steem, cost of printing depends on the country, here it would be approx 3-3,5 steem per newspaper.
It's not about printing and distributing 10 000 units though. It's about printing 2-3 by each user who would like to promote it. Based on my previous week income I could print 20 newspapers if I would sacrifice 25% of my income for promotion.
Steemit blogs ad/or websites out of Steem platform are nice, informative and doesn't cost anything but does it really have range out of our community and potential to get more users? I would say yes, but in the group of people already interested in cryptocurrencies. By sharing the paper version of newspaper we have a chance to interest people who have never heard about cryptocurrencies or steemit.
Also, electronic version of the newspaper is, in my opinion, more attractive for the average user. It's easier to share it on social media, it's more "visual", eye-catching.
Finally, if we would cut the contests and focus on collecting most interesting content and sharing it in one place, the information will be centralized on the website, it will not shared with the others in the post pinned in multiple communities in every week summary + new edition of the contest. That way it still remains invisible for many users.
but if it will be the website out of the steemit instead of newspaper, it will not have such a positive impact for activity in the group and the possibilities to use it as the promotion out of the platform will be lower as well. There is plenty of websites dedicated to cryptocurrency and people who didn't hear about crypto before, don't visit it.
If it would be the website understood as the
community on steemit, but without contests and PDF newspaper, the integration between the groups will not be achieved on the same level. Here @pennsif probably already made all what can be done so there would be no need to make me other similar project. Also, getting people from outside would be difficult if we will keep it only inside the platform.
It would be great to make the newspaper and co-work with @pennsif to include steemit news there (I'll gladly use the experience and knowledge of another user too, I'm very opened to make this project together), although I was thinking about different content mostly.
I think it would be great to focus on publications not steem related. Regular journalism to show to the other people that steem is worth visiting, reading and creating here account because it can be as informative as National Geographic or New York Times sometimes.
I'll try to explain it on the example:
Example 1.
There is Jose. Jose have never heard about the cryptocurrency, so he doesn't have the smallest chance to enter the website with info about steemit or steemit community with some activity summary. He is going to his language school, waiting for the lesson to start and at reception he sees Steemit newspaper. He reads interesting articles about, let's say, news in Pakistan, some local artist from Ghana and best place to visit in Venezuela. Every time under the post he reads it was published on steemit and then in the very same newspaper he reads that he can create the account there, read such an interesting things for free and even earn extra cash by publishing something on his own. Jose after coming back home creates the account.
Example 2.
Eva doesnt know anything about Cryptocurrency. She has seen some links from steemit shared by her friends but the design of the website, some Chinese and Korean posts on the main page and multiple options she doesn't understand scared her. Then someone sends her the newspaper in pdf where she already has selected best articles in a form she knows well. It makes her feel comfortable with exploring the content. In the very same newspaper, after article about Maradona and other with some beauty tips, she gets the information how to register and start the adventure. Suddenly it's not so terrifying and she gives it a try.
Good idea, I think you and @pennsif may collaborate on the creation of a community where you both put all the interesting post links and summary on it as in the newspaper but now it is on Steem Newspaper Community or Steem Times of a sort. People will go there to see any interesting featured post from the various community around Steem. As you all know the search function on Steem a little bit hard currently.
