RE: Competition between Similar Communities
When there is an amiable moderator it makes a difference. Every "body" whether physical or social (as in community) does well if there is a good head. Good heads are rare and only butt heads if it is really necessary. Members are free to come and go. Sheesh... They have to choose what works for them. Keeps the heads on top of things to see the community is staying healthy and strong. Recruits are coming and hopefully staying and participating. Competition can be very helpful. Not necessarily destructive. But an impetus. Like in sports. Yeah. just like in real life. This is real life, isn't it?
I agree with you that competition can be very helpful but I also have to admit that I don't like competitions. I don't see any point in it (too lazy or typical female? I read men are more competitive than women.).
To me Steemit is just like real life, at least the small part of Steemit I visit and my guess is this counts for most people. We search for a place where we like to be (the good head?) or like to post, where we are welcomed or left alone, where we like the rules or rather do without.
For sure a bit of connection and an amiable person (not necessarily the moderator) will make a huge difference. If it comes to that it's not different from a friendly shopkeeper, manager or employee. Even if they ask a bit more we are more willing to go back (being recognised is nice too if you are a loyal customer (member).
A great weekend to you dear friend.
I agree the stiff competition thing is not my cup of tea. But I do like to that I am at least keeping up with the rest. Number 1 spot is not something I ever want. I'm more in the "and the last shall come first" crowd. I saw how that works. It was crowded subway stop. Everyone was pushing and shoving to get in a position that they could get onto the train when it arrived. I was in the back and didn't get on that train. But now I was first for the next one. Ha Ha. Stay safe.
