SHADOW PUNCHING AND ARM CIRCLE: WHAT THERE ARE AND HOW I PERFORMED THEM |
---|
Shadow punching Exercise makes me to remember my secondary school days where Fridays were days set aside for P.E (physical Exercise) One of the exercises I will not forget in a haste is the boxing the air exercise and this was always carried out with the song
boxing the air, boxing the air 2x
I do like this, I do like that and
I balance well.
Permit me to extent my sincere appreciation to @ngoenyi and co. for bringing back my childhood memories through the Learning challenge s23w2: Love your Body - Shadow boxing and arm circle exercises From my experience during the session, shadow punching also known as shadowboxing, is a technique used in martial art and fitness training were punches are been thrown into the air without actually punching anything physical.

Without a doubt, it plays significant roles in coordination, endurance, concentration and warming up my body most especially, the upper part of the body.
On the other hand, the arm circle is an exercise I wasn't very familiar with until I attended the class. After watching the sample video, I thought it was as easy as I thought until I experimented then discovered that it was a very serious exercise capable of moulding me in one attempt
HOW I PERFORMED MY SHADOW PUNCH |
---|
I stood firmly upright with my right feet placed slightly in front since I am right footed, I then raised my hand upward to my chest level so as to promote myself and as well punch my opponent effectively.

I later threw strong imaginary punches into the air forty consecutive times starting with forward, upward and then sideways. After 40 consecutive Punches, I took a ten Seconds rest before embarking on the second phase of the same activities/exercise.
HOW I PERFORMED MY ARM CIRCLES |
---|
In performing the Arm circles exercise, I took a similar position like the first i.e, standing erect and upright. I stretch my hands to the form of a cross then manipulated my shoulder in some sort of 360 degree direction in the clockwise direction 40 times before repeating same for the anticlockwise direction. I had a 10 minute rest before repeating the entire process.

At the end of the program, what is the overall feelings and where did you feel the pains the most? |
---|
At the end of the program it was a wow wow wow. Imagine my videographer mistakenly deleting my arm circle video after recording for minutes. Honestly, I would have given up if not for the relieve I felt after the shadow punching exercise. I started with the shadow punching exercise and at the beginning I felt very heavy and cold because the exercise was done early in the morning. After the exercise the cold ran away and I felt some sort of relieve in me. I felt as though an heavy load was carried off my head. However, the feeling was different during and immediately after the training. My shoulder, joints was as though it's going to fall off while my breathe was heavy and fast. Specifically, the pains was greatly felt around my shoulder joint and my arm.

Do you think shadow boxing and arm circle are good for you and will you recommend it for others? |
---|
In my opinion, considering the upper body strength and cardiovascular enduring capacity I felt coupled with the relieving feelings I am feeling in my arms, shoulder and chest region, I feel it's going to be a good exercise for me as I can't wait to complete my target for the week.
One of the most unique things about this exercise is the fact that it could be done anywhere and at any time without necessarily looking for any equipment or apparatus. All you need is to make yourself available.
Going by this, I would gladly recommend it to anyone who needs exercise to improve their shoulder flexibility, range of motion, athletes who wishes to warm up their body before sports, and those who wishes to reduce stiffness in the upper part of their body. To be precised, I strongly recommend this exercises to people of all fitness level regardless of sex, age and status.
Below is my evidence showing the following activities;
Forward, sides and upwards | 40 punches on each sides | Rest for 10 seconds | Repeating the number on each sides without editing the video |
---|
Clockwise and anticlockwise | 40 circles each | rest for 10 seconds | repeating same without editing the video. |
