Holi special Besan ki Chakki (Gram flour fudge) - Steem Exclusive
Holi is a festival of colour in India. Any festival celebration is incomplete without dessert. This year Holi was celebrated on 28-29th March but I prepared this Holi special dessert after the festival.
There are some dishes which are meant to be prepared at any particular festival and on the occasion of Holi Besan Ki Chakki and Gunjiya is the most popular dessert.
There are some variations in the procedure and ingredients of making this recipe but the outcome is almost the same.
Here I made it vegan so replaced the ingredients accordingly.
Ingredients I used
- Gram flour 300 grams or about 2 cups
- Vegan or vegetable Ghee 3/4 to1 cup
- Sugar 200 grams or 1 cup or as per taste
- Water to make sugar syrup 1/2 cup
- Cashew powder 100 grams (optional)
- Cardamom and nutmeg powder 1/2 tsp
- Dry fruits of your choice
- Dried rose petals for garnishing
Procedure I followed
- Add 2-3 tbsp ghee to gram flour and mix well by hand.
- In a heavy bottom pan mix both ghee and gram flour and roast on a low flame.
- Stir it continuously to avoid get it burning.
- When it started to give a pleasant aroma of gram flour turn off the flame and let it cool down.
- Now to make sugar syrup take sugar and water in the quantity as mention in the ingredients list. heat and bring it to a boil.
- Mix roasted gram flour and cashew powder evenly.
- Get ready with dry fruits, rose petal and cardamom & nutmeg powder
- Mix the roasted flour and cashew mixture in the hot sugar syrup.
- Keep a greased tray ready to spread the mixture.
- Spread it evenly and garnish with dry fruits, rose petal and cardamom & nutmeg powder.
- Let it cool down to room temperature and then cut into square shape fudge.
