Behind The Photo contest - Edition #8 Snow-Struck For the First Time!

in GEMS5 years ago (edited)

It was the end of December 2012. I had moved from Bangladesh to Hangzhou, China in September of that very year and the winter in China hit me real hard! In Bangladesh we rarely experience what cold really feels like! So the temperatures below 0'C in Hangzhou was a real tough pill to swallow!

And then on the 30th of December, I wake up for a very early morning lecture and as I step out to my balcony, my jaws dropped!

This was the first time I was seeing snow right in front of my eyes! I honestly couldn't believe what I was experiencing, it was so surreal! After being lost for motion, words etc etc. for a couple of minutes I quickly took out my phone to take some pictures! I felt if I was too late to take the pictures, the snow would melt away!

Needless to say I was a bit scared to take my bike to class that day as the road looked super slippery!

Our campus was usually beautifully green, but it was all so elegantly covered in white!

This was the view from our lecture hall! Just imagine how much concentration I had in class that day!

There are a few small forest like areas we used to go and chill for some shade on a sunny day! But look how gorgeously the entrance was decorated by the snow!

The most striking feature of our campus in my eyes is that a lake runs through it, a beautiful lake and the University authority had done an amazing job keeping the surrounding areas as attractive as possible! So it's no surprise that the lake in the snow was supposed to be the highlight!

That single lamppost standing tall amid all the gloom caught my attention! Made me think...

...No matter how dark and difficult things get, don't turn off the lights on your hope!
