Why Community Playground is important for a Child...

City life is boring and I always felt I am in some kind of cage, an invisible cage which can't be seen but you can feel. I have mentioned before that in my country we don't have adequate parks and playgrounds. We have a few in Dhaka city which is the capital of Bangladesh but there is a question of security issue. Still, now parents don't let their kids go outside and play around because of security issues. Most importantly there is a lacking of community playgrounds because of land value. The Land value of Dhaka is a high and densely overpopulated city. So, thinking about a community playground is impossible because people first think about shelter.

Because of this large scale issue, parents are bound to keep their children at home. I am talking about big cities and overpopulated cities here. In fact, nowadays parents provide a small indoor playroom for kids so that they can play. As an architect, I have designed an apartment like this providing a small play zone for small kids.

But my question is does it help a kid to grow physically and mentally?

I never have got the chance to play outside with other kids. First of all, I was a girl, second, my mother was in fear of incidents, there was a safety issue and second, there was not a community playground for me where I could have played. So, how I have spent my childhood? Hmm... I used to play with dolls, sometimes small kitchen crockeries made of clay, very small. My school had a big playground, I used to play "Hop Scotch" with my friends. I used to stay at home, drawn some drawings, watched cartoons on TV and study, eat, sleep. That was my life...

When I was a 5-6 years old girl, I started reading Disney books and started my journey with a fantasy fairyland. Yes, I grown up, I learned but it took time for me. Because I was not able to go outside so I became introvert. I came to know about society and people lately because my world was with my parents and rarely with my school friends. Yes, physically, mentally grown up but it took time...

I never got a chance to play this type of space, I had a cradle, rocking chair at home that's all. Can you imagine a bird in a cage? I was like that but I was happy. Nowadays kids are busy with mobile phones and different gadgets. Why? Because they don't have any places/spaces for their outdoor activities. They stay at home and spend most of their time playing video games. Parents feel secure because their kids are at home...

I always try to do research on a child's psychology because my childhood was different. I don't blame my parents, I blame the situation, I blame the big city life.

Because this is the reality of how most of the kids are growing nowadays in big overpopulated, crowded cities...

So, what is the solution? Will write about it later...
