Almost the Summer Solstice!

in GEMSyesterday

Tomorrow will be the longest day of the year, here in the northern hemisphere!

Chives in bloom, in our garden

This is a beautiful time of the year, when nature is full of life and everything is in bloom and getting ready to set fruit.

Gardening is great because the days are so long, here in the high north. On a clear day, it doesn't get fully dark until about 10:00pm at night.

Cheerful pansies! All of these were self-seeded from a handging basket, a couple of years ago!

Strawberry season is upon us, and we are having a really good crop so far, even though we have had far less sunshine than I would like.

Surprisingly, we have not had to deal with the rot and mold we've faced in the past, although we do have issues with voles and other rodents eating some of the berries.

Fresh strawberries from the garden!

Haven't really had much time for such things as blogging (which you can probably tell, since it has been months since my last post!); life is rather busy, and these days it seems harder than ever to keep above water, financially speaking.

It seems more and more common to go to the supermarket and see certain shelves be empty, for long periods at a time. Recently, it was eggs again, and full dairy products like cream and whole milk.

Not sure what the world is coming to!

Apples are starting to take shape. In about six weeks, they will be ready!

Sort of makes you wonder what the future holds, for all of us. Also adds a little extra incentive to growing our own food, "just in case."

Till the next, thank you for visiting! All photos are my own, usually taken in nature, from the nearby beach, or around our property.
