Did you ever get caught lying? Yes, I know that and it has stained me. At one time my child told mum she had finished homework, when actually I was ¾ of the way through. Everyone knew when i was caught I felt cheap and dirty. The Consequence? The flip side of that is that I was like — literally for like four hours, shit I lost my MOM's trust. However, the good part was; it taught me that honesty is more valued than a fleeting image.

Lying is often considered a shortcut to avoid problems or gain benefits. However, is it true that lying is profitable? In the short term, maybe yes. But in the long term, lies actually create a big hole in trust that is difficult to repair. One small lie can give birth to a series of other lies to cover it up.

What about deceptive jokes? For example, pranks between friends? This is a unique case. If the intention is just for fun without harming or hurting anyone, people usually understand it. However, if it is excessive or offensive, it can be considered a lie that damages relationships.

There are times when lies can save the day. I remember telling a friend that she did really well in a presentation when in fact it was a mess. Why did I lie? Because she was very nervous and needed encouragement to keep going. As a result, she became more confident and improved her presentation the next time. In this situation, my little lie had a positive impact — building, not destroying.

Now, let's look at the case of a woman who told a customer that the price of a product was 100 steem when in fact it was only 80 steem. Is this lying or doing business? Ethically, this is lying, because she hid the real price in order to gain more profit. A healthy business should be based on honesty and transparency. If profit is obtained by deceiving or manipulating information, it can damage the reputation and trust of customers in the long run.

In short, lying may seem like an instant solution, but it carries great risks. Only in certain cases — such as protecting feelings or saving someone from harm — is lying understandable. But in business, honesty remains the main foundation for building lasting relationships.
