Every morning, the neighborhood where I live comes alive since five o'clock. The sound of roosters crowing from the backyards of residents' houses. The morning air feels fresh, especially after the rain overnight wet the small roads in our village. Housewives are typically sweeping the yard, and fathers busy preparing to leave for work or the fields, depending on the profession. Children begin to trickle out of the house dressed in school uniforms; some walk and others ride bicycles, and many carry backpacks that seem larger than their bodies.

One thing that has raised a lot of interest amongst us in the past weeks has been the erection of a new guard post at the junction of the tarred road. This task is a group effort done by residents uniting once a week. They brought building materials, like sand, bricks and cement, in addition to helping to mix the dough. The men oversaw the construction of the building, the women made tea and snacks for everyone. A dense feeling of warmth and family filled the room, as if reminding us that the sense of community here is very much alive.

In addition, the routine religious study activities every Friday night are also an important moment in our social life. These religious studies are held in turns in residents' homes and attended by adults and children. The religious and familial atmosphere blends, providing spiritual peace while strengthening relationships. Children are also taught to read the Qur'an and moral values that are important for the formation of their character.

However, recently some of our citizens have been energetically taking cares of environmental cleanliness. They cluster in small groups to clear the gutters every Sunday morning, pick up plastic garbage and repaint some of the many drab road fences. This activity is very beneficial not only from beautifying side, but also to keep flood which is quite often found in rainy season in control.
