Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 84: Dealing with Frenemies

Imagine a person who sits on a fence and his feet are on both sides of the fence. Imagine a part being cold and the other is hot. This signifies that the person feels both temperatures. In this situation, the temperatures will signify the people's emotions. A frienemy is like a double-edge sword which needs to be deliberated about. Let's talk about it.

In my understanding, I'll say Frienemy is a type of personality who comes as a friend but his or her true intention is to perform the act of an enemy. This set of people are worse than your true enemy. They come into your life as a true friend making their lifestyle with you genuine but they are your worst nightmare.

I had an encounter with a frenemy and I'll like to share it here. Before I joined the tertiary institution, I was a part of a so-called network marketing company named Neo life. During an outing to a local government, we were on an expedition of selling their supplements. I was in the company of a guy I knew from that company. We entered a compound to sell the supplement and the woman was willing to buy.

The issue was that I didn't have change, so I stepped out to look for change. On returning, the other guy sold to the woman and met the required change to return to the woman. I was angry and confronted him but he said that it was a competition. For me, I saw it as Treacherous act because we were told in the training camp to ensure that the first person should do the transaction. I was furious but I had to act cool till I left that environment.

There is an old proverb that says "if you want to eat with the devil, bring a long spoon else you'll face the consequence". This goes alongside Frienemy. On an average scale, this set of people are very tricky in nature. But if you are able to decipher them earlier, make sure you don't fall into their gestures which is a trick. Use the time factor to disassociate with them. Making time to work here will overshadow their tricky lifestyle and they won't be able to understand it till it's too late.

A true friend is one who protects your interest with and without your presence. To identify a true friend, leave the premises and the feedback about you determine how true he or she is. A true friend cannot blackmail or destroy your image in your absence while praising you in your presence.
