Hello Steemians,

Week 4 of the SLC Movie Snapshot is here, and this time around, the theme Time Travel & Twists is just pure madness — the good kind. If you like movies that confuse you, make you pause and rewind scenes, or even question reality, then welcome to my world.

For this week’s contest, I went with a film that had me speechless by the end — Predestination (2014). If you think you’ve seen plot twists before, wait till you dive into this one.

About the movie

The Story That Plays With Time (and Your Brain)

Predestination starts like any normal time-travel movie — a secret agent travels through time to prevent crimes before they happen. His current mission was to stop a dangerous criminal known as The Fizzle Bomber.

It might look simple, maybe because that was his job, but it wasn't.

During one of his missions, the agent meets a mysterious person who starts telling their life story. The mysterious person starts the backstory which at first, was emotional, not until it slowly transforms into a mind-blowing twist. The person reveals they were born female, raised in an orphanage, fell in love, got pregnant, had their baby stolen, and later transitioned into male.

That story alone deserves its own movie. But here’s where it gets WILD — the baby they gave birth to? That child was also them. And the man they fell in love with? Also… them.

Confused? Good. That’s the idea. The character ends up being their own mother, father, and child — a complete time loop.

This is not just time travel. This is time folding on top of itself, and you’re just there watching like: "What's really going on here".

What Glued Me to the Screen

There’s something about movies that slowly peel back the layers. Predestination doesn’t reveal its secrets in a rush. Instead, it keeps giving you small clues — enough to make you think, but not enough to spoil the twist.

One major highlight was Sarah Snook’s performance. She played both the female and male versions of the same character, and she carried it with so much emotion that I almost forgot I was watching one actor.

The cinematography also deserves recognition as the smooth transitions between timelines didn’t confuse the viewers in any way. Instead, they made everything feel connected; making you feel like you’re watching time itself fold and unfold in front of your eyes.

On getting to the final twist, you’ll be tempted to restart the whole movie just to watch it again, as if you have not seen it before.

If I Were to Turn It Into a Novel

Although Predestination was adapted from a short story titled All You Zombies by Robert A. Heinlein, I haven’t read it. But if I were to write the book based on the movie, I’d go deeper into the character’s mental breakdown.

Imagine how it must feel to realize you’re all alone in the most literal way — the only person in your family tree. No father. No mother. Just you. I'd write it in alternating timelines: the orphanage days, the training, the surgery, the love story, and finally, the shocking realization.

Each chapter would be like solving a mystery until it all clicks together in a heartbreaking way.

Why This Movie is Perfect for Week 4's Theme

Let’s be real — when we talk about Time Travel with a Twist, Predestination ticks all the boxes:

✅ Deep and layered time travel

✅ A twist that NOBODY expects

✅ Complex characters

✅ Thought-provoking storyline

✅ Leaves you stunned for days

The movie explores identity, fate, free will, and loneliness in a way that few time-travel films dare to. And the twist isn’t just for show — it’s the core of the entire plot.

This is not your average "go back to change the past" movie. This one messes with your perception of who you are and whether you have any control at all over your destiny.

Final Thoughts – My Brain is Still Processing

Some movies give you action. Others give you love stories. But Predestination gave me a proper identity crisis.

The moment I realized that all the major characters were one and the same person, I paused the movie and just sat down quietly. No soundtrack. No noise. Just me, my remote, and my confused brain.

It’s rare to find a movie that entertains and also makes you reflect deeply. After watching, I started thinking about how time affects who we are, and whether some things are meant to happen no matter how hard we try to change them.

If you're someone who enjoys smart plots, unexpected twists, and sci-fi with depth, then you NEED to watch Predestination. But be warned — this movie isn’t here to play. Once you enter the time loop, there’s no coming out 😅.

Thanks for reading fam! Let me know in the comments if you’ve watched Predestination or if you have any other mind-bending time travel movies to recommend.

I invite @imohmitch @promisezella @us-andrew to participate in this contest.
