Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 72: How I Handle Pressure
Greetings, friends, and welcome to my participation in this week's accelerators contest, where I will be sharing my insights on facing pressure as I attend to the hints provided.
What do you understand by Pressure |
---|
To my understanding, pressure is that feeling of stress or weight that comes from expectations, responsibilities, or challenges we face in life. Just like when we have a lot on our plate and feel overwhelmed, this could be work deadlines, family obligations, or even personal goals which can make us feel anxious or stressed out, almost like there is a heavy weight on our shoulders.
We can think of it as a push or pull that comes from outside forces, just like trying to juggle multiple tasks at once or that feeling to meet certain standards.
While some pressure can motivate us to do better, too much can lead to burnout or frustration. Therefore, it is important to find ways to manage pressure in our lives, whether through relaxation techniques, talking to someone about how you feel, or simply taking a break to clear our minds.
Have you been under pressure before? If yes, How do you handle it |
---|
Oh definitely! Facing pressure in life is something we all experience at different points, and it can come from various sources like work, family, or personal expectations.
Therefore, we face several pressures in different angles of life but then my latest experience of pressure came in a work environment, when I was pressure to meet a deadline or achieve targets. The annoying part of it was that, I did my part of the work on time but then my subordinates delayed theirs and the entire workload was on me to meet up the deadline. I had to use the entire night arranging and filing documents that I was making a lot of errors and starting over, and over again.
How did I go over it? well at some point I was frustrated and also angry at my subordinates for putting all their work load on me, so I just find a corner to lay down and sleep. Imagine sleeping on a deadline day? yes, that's exactly what I did. after sleeping for an hour or two, then I got up finished the work with a fresh mind, not minding the deadline.
How do you view Pressure, do you see it as something that happens to Mar or Makes you? |
---|
A lot of people sees pressure from different perspectives and I think I'm not so different either. When I was reviewing posts related to this topic in this community, I found that certain individuals see pressure as;
Motivation:
That is, a good thing that can push them to work harder and achieve their goals.
Stress:
Others view pressure as a negative force that can lead to stress and anxiety.
Growth:
Some believe that facing pressure can lead to personal growth as overcoming challenges can build resilience and make one stronger in the long run.
Balance:
Some think it’s all about balance. That is a little pressure can be beneficial, but also, too much can be harmful.
I can say that all these perspectives are in line with what pressure brings, therefore they are not totally wrong. Hence, I see pressure as something that can both happen to you and make you. It can be a challenge that feels overwhelming at times, but it can also serve as a catalyst for growth and achievement.
Therefore, When we face pressure, it can help us reveal our strengths, sometimes friends too and while also helping us develop resilience. So therefore, while pressure can be tough to deal with, it can also shape us into a stronger and more capable person if we learn to manage it effectively.
So therefore it is important to understand that pressure is not always a bad thing to "mar us", because sometimes it can motivate us to push our limits and achieve our goals. The key therefore is to find a balance and not let pressure overwhelm us.
What would be your advice to those (i.e job applicant) who are quick to state that they can work under pressure |
---|
As a job applicant, I would rather advise you to stay true to your abilities, because saying you can work under pressure might sound good at first, but then there are some negatives to it.
First, if you just say it without experiencing working under pressure or giving good examples, it can come off as empty talk. Hence, the employers might think you are saying so just to impress them, which may not show your true skills.
Secondly, saying you can handle pressure might make you look like you do not care about your own well-being because nobody likes to work under pressure but rather in convenience.
Lastly, after saying you can work under pressure, if you then handle pressure poorly in the job, it could lead to mistakes or a negative work environment.
For job applicants who say they can work under pressure, my simple advice for them is to have a clear understanding about what that means, rather than just saying it and then be ready to dance to the beat of that drum.
On this note, I like to invite @yakspeace, @edidiongeffiong and @abdullahw2 to participate.
NOTE: Always have a smile on your face, as you are never fully dressed without one.
