Someone once said to me that the word impossible only exist in the mind and not in the dictionary

Have you had experiences of things that looked impossible until you faced them?

Yes I have. There has been times in my life where I had experiences of things that looked impossible until I faced them. These experiences are numerous but I would like to talk about one of the most recent ones. Let's take a look at such impossible experiences.

My Experience of renting my own apartment in the city of Lagos

I moved into the city of Lagos Nigeria in 2019, with no place to stay or finances as back up to get a place. I had to squat with a lot of persons until 2021. I saved up some money and moved in to an apartment with a friend.

Along the line I was no longer comfortable with almost everything about the apartment ranging from the environment to the insecurity issues going on at that time.

The street was always flooded each time there was little rainfall, and it was so unbelievable because sometimes I miss my appointments because I could not come out or walk on the street after a down pour of rain.

Also the kind of people living in that environment where gradually influencing my mind because their mode of thinking was poor and it wasn't good for me.

Almost every day, there was cases of armed robbery attacks in the neighborhood. Robbers even came to my apartment and attempted to rob us. That experience traumatized me and I made up my mind to get a better accommodation.

In December 2023, I contacted some agents in the city and I told them the type of apartment I would like to have. I would say it was a fruitless adventure because they all ended up eating my money without getting what I wanted. I paid so much for their services. I decided to go for house hunting myself.

If you are familiar with the city of Lagos you would know that rents are usually very expensive. Below was the price of apartment I got at an average location.

From the prices of apartment above it looked impossible for me to get the kind of apartment I really wanted. Lagos is not a place where you negotiate rents with landlords. If you are not willing to pay someone else is willing to pay double.

It was one of the most difficult experiences I had earlier last year. It looked impossible but I decided to face it head way pushing and working hard on steemit. I started saving and I cut down on a lot of expenses like feeding and other things.

It took a lot from me I must tell you. The journey of getting an apartment started towards the end of 2023 precisely in December and I finally moved into this new apartment in May 2024. I paid up every money needed, I didn't owe them for one day. It took a while to achieve it but I definitely did.

What gave you the courage to face those seemingly impossible situations

What gave me the courage to face the situation above that seem impossible includes the following;

Remembering my rent will be due soon

Each time I remember that the rent of my old apartment is about to expire, it made me push more to get a new place because I didn't want to pay another rent living there.

A particular scripture in the Bible

The bible scriptures that said all things are possible only if we believe. This scripture was one of the most important driving force for me that period. I kept confessing this bible verse and speaking it to myself that I believe that I have all the money needed to get a good apartment.

My good friend of mine

She was a great motivation. She kept saying we can do this, we can achieve this. She told me to step out even when the agents are up my money and did not deliver what I wanted.

The fear of Poverty gave me courage

I mentioned that I didn't like the environment of the old apartment I was living in because of the mindset of the people. I saw them as poor people and the more I kept living and associating with them I was feeling like I was accepting poverty. I needed to run fory life.

How did you handle advice from friends and family who wanted to make you do otherwise

When I told my siblings and parents about my target of getting a better apartment in the city, I remember they were totally not in support. Infact my brother specifically made it known to me that I was not going to get any financial support from him. He thought I was informing them because I wanted help from them.

My parents advices that I look for a cheaper accommodation or go back to the city where I was coming from. It was a terrible situation for me. I wanted to get upset and rudely end the discussion.

ThankGod I didn't, I just told them that I have heard what they said. I changed the topic immediately and talked about something else.

My sister in-law didn't stop calling me to advice me anymore going to the apartment. I suddenly stop picking her calls because I didn't want any form of discouragement.

At the end when I told them my plans worked, they were happy for me and started asking how it all happened. So I leant that your dream may look big before others and they may not believe in it if you don't believe in it first.

Disconnecting from those who discourage me was my greatest way of handling friends and family who wanted to talk me out.
