SLC-S25/W2-Movie Snapshots|Book to Screen || Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret
Relating written ideas to visual ideas, brings more understanding and clarity, dives fully into the characters expressions and thoughts. Allows you to share in their emotions and a glimpse to their world.
Do you think, an idea is better written as a book/novel or acted out as a movie? And which do you prefer? |
---|
An idea being expressed in a book or acted in a movie comes with different expressions and emotional impacts according to the idea being displayed.
Being acted as a movie saves our minds from creating imaginary scenarios. The acting comes with all the expressions of the characters, music that stirs up emotions, fun acts and everything that will make you sit tight to watch every bit of the scene.
Movies are like storytelling acts, which you only have to watch and listen to.
Expressing ideas in a book/ novel is like cold waters running down to the depths of your belle, you won't see the expressions of the characters, but as you are reading, unlike watching movies, the words move across your heart taking you in the emotions of the characters on, also creating imaginary pictures on your mind to show their expressions.
Well both are interesting and enjoyable, but novels are the best when it comes to sharing the emotions of the characters and even their thoughts.
Watch any movie adapted from a book or novel |

Thinking about movies that were inspired and created by a novel, I came across one of my best; "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret ".
Both the movie and novel explore the life of a young girl, Margaret Simon, as she fights her way through puberty, self-discovery and religion during her sixth-grade year.

From the movie you have watched above, what can you say about the strength and weakness of the movie compared to the book/novel but if you have not read the book then tell us what captivated you the most in the movie and if you were to write a book on the movie how would that part be written to captivate the reader? |
---|
Strength |
---|
The girl in the role of Margaret did a great work there. The expressions she offered, were able to explain everything without words.
The reality in the scenario as she struggles through puberty.
The movie can reveal those unimaginable scenarios, like her relationship with family and friends.
Weakness |
---|
Maybe to avoid time wasted and spending too much on some resources, they had to rush some parts in the movie that were expressed in the book, which resulted in leaving out some parts.
While the book was able to offer every imaginary scenario and thought of the characters.
In conclusion, both ideas either written or acted as a movie, serves different experiences in terms of expressions.
Depending on your choice, if you want to feel the words moving across your heart and having a shared experience in the characters world, understanding their thoughts and emotions, then a novel is all you need to achieve that.
If you want an acted experience, witnessing and listening to the actions, seeing their expressions and getting their thoughts directly from them, then a movie is all you need.
