Emily in Paris is a movie that really got to me. The main character Emily just moved to Paris from Chicago with the aim of bringing an American perspective to their branch in Paris. Life is hard for her at first because she doesn't speak the language and she doesn't know their culture. But she takes French classes, makes new friends and tries to bond with the people at work. They weren't welcoming at first because athey felt insulted, like who comes to France without learning French first? To me, that isn't a big deal but ot was a big deal for them even when they could understand her English and speak it.
This movie is like me on a screen because I also moved to somewhere new. I'm trying to navigate my life here, trying to fit in, learning new ways of living, trying to make new friends here too. It's hard but if Emily could do it,i can do it too.
🌹 Adaptation: To change your behavior so to change your behavior so that it's easier to live in a particular place or situation. Whenever I find myself somewhere new, i shouldn't cross my hands and sit or feel left out. I need to watch their style of living and emulate it, if they have another language, i learn the language. If they have a way of dressing, i adapt it. We know the saying that "If you're in rome, behave like a Roman". Do the positive things they're doing. If they're having a celebration, i have to join them and celebrate, build connections, from there i can make new friends.
🌹 Resilience: Emily was resilient, she didn't let the cold look of her colleagues or rude personality of some of the French people put her down. She endured and found a way around them. I should be able to overcome obstacles, cope under pressure and stress. I shouldn't let people discourage me or make me run back into my shell.
🌹 Creative Thinking: She worked in a marketing firm so was always thinking of creative ways to promote a brand, new techniques, e.t.c I should be able to think outside the box at all times, think creatively, brainstorm solutions that work. Do something to be remembered for.
🌹 Pursuing Dreams: I shouldn't be scared to pursue my dream no matter how big it is or no matter how far it is from my present location. Once i determine to do it, set my heart and work towards it, I'll get it. Distance should never be a barrier to success
🌹Balanced Life: Emily was able to balance her friendships, work life and romantic life. Everything has time. If I'm going to work in the morning, i should focus on that, when I'm back, i use my free time for my personal business. I shouldn't use my work time for leisure neither should I use my leisure time for work. If I'm taking a break from work, maybe a few days or week, I should focus on my relaxation and not bring work into it because there is time for everything. I'm learning how to balance every part of my life now so one part doesn't suffer. The weight should be balanced.
The protagonist of rhe movie "Emily" was my favorite character.
I admired the attributes she possessed so much. She was:
📌 Free spirited: She was very jovial, friendly and knew how to make friends and keep them. Though she fell out with them once in a while, they always made up.
📌Her creative thinking, adaptability and willingness to learn and be corrected earns her admiration and love from a lot of people
📌She doesn't see her job as a tedious work, she sees it as fun, she enjoys it, loves it and is always active, always up and doing. I really love that about her.
📌She was submissive to her boss, she never raised her voice at her or be disrespectful in any way. She was a humble worker, this made her boss promote her to the position of a branch manager.
📌In her romantic life, she knew what she wanted and she always went for it. Though some of the relationships didn't workout, she learnt a lot from them. It gave her experience on how to be a better person
📌She was always there for her friends, she showed up whenever they needed her. She was a shoulder to cry on, a support system too. She celebrated their wins with them and gave advice when needed.
🍿 Movie 1: After 30
I saw this movie last week, it focused on 4 friends and how they navigated their lives.
The first friend "Temilola" was a lawyer who got engaged with a prominent man, she dumped him some months later for a man she cheated on her ex with. History was repeating itself and she let it happen. All because she believed this man was her soulmate.
The second friend was "Ama". Ama was a chef who just discovered that she is attracted to females. Her friends told her its normal and she should embrace it but she was too scared to accept the truth.
The third Friend was "Nkem". She was tired of being a side chick to men. So she decided to get a baby which she can focus her energy on.
The fourh friend was "Aisha". A married woman with one child who couldn't give birth to another because of her womb complications. Her husband was pressuring her about it but she refused to tel him her reason for not wanting a child at the moment.
She went ahead to tie her tubes so she would conceive. Her husband found out and sent her out of the home.
This movie has inspired me to be a better person.
🌹 Don't settle for less: The man Temilola cheated on her ex with had all the time in the world to come back together with her, but he didn't. He came back when she was engaged to another man and ended up ruining the relationship again. Whoever wants me should earn me and not just walk out of my life and come back anytime in the name of soulmates.
🌹 Check yourself to know your sexuality. Read books concerning that and see the category you fall under so you won't be pressurized to be who you're not
🌹Focus your energy on something worthwhile. It doesn't pay to have several sexual partners. Guard your body, it is the temple of God.
🌹 Communicate with your partner. Once you're married, you're no longer two. people but 1. Let your partner know everything that is happening with you. Don't make big decisions alone. Sit and talk about it with your partner.
🍿 Movie 2:How to date Billy Walsh
This is a movie about a young girl who had a crush on a boy at school, she decided to talk to a love doctor who was her boy best friend in disguise. The boy best friend was in love with her so he wasn't happy she liked Billy Walsh. He tried to make her change her mind with his love doctor disguise. In the end, she found out he was the love doctor and she was deeply hurt that he would do something as awful as that.
This movie inspired me because i saw the length, how far someone can go to make sure some things don't work out for you. Let us watch who we call our friends and make sure it's people that want the best for us.
I hope the lessons i learnt from these movies can help you too.
I'd like to invite @imohmitch, @etoro and @precious9 to participate.
