It's your lovely friend @okere-blessing, this contest reminds me a lot from my childhood, I can't dispute the fact that it was an enjoyable experience that will remain ever green in my life.
I had the couple of lies that looks real then, but growing up found out that it was just something to scare us or take away our mind from doing them.

Let me start with some of the lies I grow up believing, they are quite funny 🤣.

What were the lies you believed while growing up?

During childhood I was told that when I swallow udara seed(star apple seed) that it will grow from my stomach, to me I can't imagine seeing a tree of udara growing from my stomach. I avoided licking the seed anytime I'm eating the fruit I would throw away the seed to avoid swallowing it.

Another one lie is seating on the ground, I was told that when you sit on the ground and you are lucky to be stinky by ant🐜 that you will grow very tall. During that time whenever any stinks on us instead of someone to console us they will tell us that we will grow very tall. You can imagine.

What was your reaction after finding out the truth as an adult?

Hmmm, I must say that the lies has been rooted deeply in me that whenever I remembered them I feel scared. One day I decided to try out the swallowing of udara seed I cried to my father that I have mistakenly swallowed udara seed, at first my father ignored my complaint making the matter looks serious I was scared until he called me and disclosed the truth , that it was just a lie to scare us from swallowing udara seed. See how I jumped up in happiness. Since then I eat my udara with the seed without fear.

Do you subscribe to telling lies to young minds in a bid to protect them or you choose to call a spade a spade?

Times has changed unlike when we were growing up, children of nowadays needs everything truth , because if you don't tell them the Internet or peer groups will teach them. As such I subscribed to telling them the truth that's calling a spade a spade.

I told my cousin that people who smokes will die young, in fact their death will be very dangerous, could you believe that a week later after telling him that he came back and told me that he saw one man smoking and he observed him till two days the man did not die.

I have to openly let him understand the implications of smoking, rather than telling him they would die young.

Conclusion.

Some of those lies I grew up believing saved me from dangers, though at the time I realized there were lies it was late to try them.

Tell the children the truth ,the world is so digital that anyone can get information from Google or other sources if you don't. I choose to call a spade a spade how about you?

There are many of these lies I was growing up with but I always have lots of questions in my mind too, if this thing is like this why wouldn't this happens and I come to conclude that most of those lies were superstition and to swinddle a child to get it scared. You really remember this "udara" lie very well😊, this one used to looks so scared thinking about how a tree would grow in your stomach wasn't what any child want to experience 😄😄 Our moms and older ones were the genius. Thanks for inviting me. I enjoy your write up. Success

Hahaha this is so funny but while we were kids it wasn't funny at all, it was scary. Now we know better, but how can a seed grow in our stomach.. Best wishes with your entry
