If there is anything I dread, it is snakes. Dread them to the point that my eyes are always looking out for them because I wouldn't want to bump into them by mistake.

I could remember when I was with my mom during my primary 4 to 6, my mom will always ask me to come to the farm after school. I will accept but will not go in most cases. The reason wasn't because I wanted to disobey her but because after school, the sun is usually intense and that is when snakes move across the roads. I hate seeing them as I walk alone on those lonely roads and as such, I won't go to meet my mom.

She will yell and yell. I do explain it to her though. In some cases, I will muster up courage and go to meet her with our dog. Yes, my dad had dogs then and I feel comfortable going to the farm with them with the mindset that the dog will protect me. I just feel strong that the dog is moving forward and backward, sideways and as such no snake will dare come out.

It was that bad for me.

I could recall when we were still in my former city of residence, I had seen snakes on 3 occasions in our house and I knew how I screamed and jumped for help. I knew how I avoided that area where the snake was thinking that it will always be there. I had to even buy anything that people suggested to me that it will help keep them away from the house.

I had heard that snakes can be eaten but I avoided anyone that eats it. Until I came even closer to the eaters of snake to the point that it became unavoidable. How?

I was still awake by 11pm on Wednesday night when I got a notification from Facebook that one of my friends has posted a video. I quickly checked it out and saw a big snake that they killed in their neighbor's house. It was very big. It had gone to the house of their neighbor, lying in wait to eat their prey, dog.

According to them, the 2 dogs that sleeps in that particular store where the snake had gone to refused to go in to that place that night. They chased them in but they were barking. They decided to check out why and on getting close, they saw the big snake waiting for the dogs. That was when they raised alarm and this my husband's friend who happened to be their neighbor ran to assist them along with others. They finally killed the snake after much struggles.

He, my husband's friend called on my husband to come over, that there is meat. He invited us to come and I was encouraged to go along. In my mind, I was just imagining it. I was even afraid to go because I thought to myself, what if another snake is there? What if I step on it? I kept asking 'what ifs' to myself to the point that I was even thinking out loud to the hearing of others.

But those who had eaten it before gave wonderful commendations about the taste of the meat. That it is just like chicken and it is very delicious. They started talking about the uses of it's parts like the fat

IMG_20230713_180613_276.jpgthe fat from the snake. It is going to be used for medicine

They had separated the fat, and they said they swallowed some raw. That it is anti-poison, capable of neutralizing any poison one takes. Well, it sounded good to me.

I was also told of different ways to kill it. It was just like a place of learning and I was very interested since I told myself that I need to muster up courage to be able to cope with the fear if I eventually see snake again.

But will I really be able? On two occasions, I had met 2 little ones in our new home, outside the premises and I jumped and called out for help. I have also bought bitter kola and carbide and thrown around since they said that it keeps them away. I was also advised not to throw meat water, crayfish or just any dirty water within because they attract them to search for food around. I pray not to see them again.

The snake is ready to be eaten

IMG_20230713_184738_411.jpgthe meat in the pot before ours were given to us.

It was shared and we took ours home. I tried to eat it then but I was just afraid to do so. The little I ate was not with a free mind as my mind was panting.

It was just yesterday that I had to cut it into pieces and added utazi leaf, enough pepper, ginger and garlic. Then prepared it to my taste, that i was able to enjoy eating it. But truth must be told, it was tasty.

I couldn't believe that I, ngoenyi could taste it. Well, we learn everyday and I like exploration. I like mixing up and blending with the people I call my friends.

All I am praying for is the courage to let go of the fear. A lot of women can stand and kill these 'long man'(snakes) but I just can't. Let me know your thoughts about eating snakes. Do you eat it? @mesola @talktofaith @ruthjoe @okere-blessing @goodybest @xkool24 @bossj23 @patjewell @karianaporras @drhira @m-fdo and others

First...

Then ...

But truth must be told, it was tasty.

Omg ๐Ÿ˜ณ can't imagine. Haha

ย last yearย

It was horrible at first. But I overcame the horror

ย last yearย

how long will it take you to fight the horror? ๐Ÿ™ˆ After the snake you bring it to the house.

For me.. I'm afraid of snakes.

But my friends used to eat snakes. Not often, but get used to it.

Gun fact here in Indonesian. But its about dream when we slept:
The person who dreams of being bitten by a snake is a sign that he will find his life partner; his soul mate.

But I'm still afraid of snakes. You are more powerful because you are able to stir the snake with the spices. Then adjust it to your taste.

My dear, I love trying out new things. No one is even afraid of it more than I do. But mehn, I had to eat it. It was before me. I had to push that fear aside and enjoy it. Such is life. It can present different opportunities for you. Just take it as they come by

ย last yearย

Why do your words make me think about the quote.

"Face the fear within yourself, then you will find delicacy after passing it.

Haha.

Thank for your sharing about horrible experience โฃ๏ธ

So long as we are still alive, we have to face our troubles squarely because no one can do that for us. And we learn to be courageous as we face them. I appreciate the interaction with you dear. Thank you

I am glad to read from you dear friend. Thank you for checking on us. I have personally missed you and your publications.

I am good too and we moved in though not 100% complete.

I have a lot of travel stories to share. Let's see when can I sit down and put together some posts.

Congratulations for moving in, bud ! A home is hardly 100% completed. There's always something that needs to be done (in my experience).

ย last yearย

I can't wait to read those stories.

A home is hardly 100% completed

I agree with you. Thank you so much dear buddy. Waiting to read from you soon. Just tag me and I will appear, lols

Are you serious now! I'm quite surprise to hear this at the end..

But truth must be told, it was tasty.

Whole time I was expecting, "At the end I threw it away"

Whole time I was expecting, "At the end I threw it away"

I threw it away the first time. But I was really encouraged to and I did it and discovered that it tastes nice. Try it someday.

Thank you for coming around dear friend. I appreciate

I'm all about embracing new experiences, but this one takes a whole new level of courage and I don't thing I will ever do it! You're amazing and I'm happy you enjoy it!

ย last yearย

Never say never!

I did say never but in the end, I ate it. Well, the truth is that, it is one of the white meats that is good for our system. So, when you have the opportunity, grab it dear buddy. Thank you so much dear friend. True courage comes when we take such steps.

Wow, you got courage for this! Just the memories keep me away from it be it alive or dead. I've also stayed close to some natives down in locality who kill and eat snakes but I never joined them because of the same fear or presumed effect.
Thanks for sharing your experience...๐Ÿ˜Š

I had to. I don't even know where the courage came from. But I made it. I had to get back at that creature for always scaring me. Thank you for your comment
