SLC-S25/W2-Movie Snapshots|Book to Screen DEVDAS written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.
So here I am with my entry on the topic a story from book or novel to screen! So welcome to my entry from Movie snapshots week 2. For this contest I would like to invite @wuddi , @dove11 and @sikha12. Today the story which I am choosing to present is a movie named "Devdas" a romantic lovestory which has been taken from a Bengali Novel named "Dēbôdās" which is written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The story is based on a love triangle between the three main characters which are "Dev, Paro and Chandramukhi" . The story is all about how a boy (Dev) who fell in love with her neighbour (Paro) goes abroad to study and years after completing his studies and coming back to India they both wanted to get married but due to family enmity they had to face separation. According to my personal preference an idea is better when acted out in the movie as we get to see the visual representation of the story which remains in our mind . Where as in a written form we generally do not get the clarity about the characters and moreover through movies we get to see the characters who act according to the story which helps us to get better understanding of the morals and aim of the story. For this question I have selected the movie name Devdas which has been taken from a Bengali Novel written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay in which there are three characters which have been described in detail below: He is leading main character of the story who loved her neither's daughter. Later when he grew up he went to England to complete his studies of law and later when he returned after studying he wanted to marry his love but due to enmity between both the families they could not marry and later her lover got married and due to this separation he became a drunkard. Paro is the childhood love of Devdas and during his stay in London she always wrote letters to him and eagerly waited to meet Devdas. She even let a lamp in the memory of Devdas. But when Devdas returned back from England she wanted to marry Dev but his family didn't agree for their marriage. Later she got married to an old man of Manikpur. Chandramukhi is a name of the character who is basically a prostitute who fall in love with Dev as after the marriage of Paro he started visiting to brothel. She is a very beautiful lady and deeply loved Dev but she never got back love from Dev as he loved Paro! As it is a Bengali Novel and I have already watched the movie so I did not went through the novel. But coming on to the movie Devdas She never loved any man except Dev and had also made it very much clear to her husband that she can never unlove Dev and so his husband should not keep any expectations of love from her. The romantic love story is a very heart touching story where we get to see the attachment and love between two lovers who got seperated and still the love for each other remain in their hearts. After loosing Paro Dev never fall in love again but Chandramukhi loved Dev alot and while he got over drunk Chandramukhi took care of Dev like a lover. No I don't think if I would have written the noble or story from the movie I would have written better as Devdas itself is a superhit movie with heart touching songs . Coming on to the conclusion I personally loved the story as it gave us the strong message of love never dies as we can see from the story. If Dev would have wanted to find love again he would have easily got a lover but he never married anyone and in the grief of Paro he became a drunkard and risked his love as he died by cancer due to drinking and smoking. On the other hand we got to see the character Chandramukhi who knows that Dev can never be hers but still she choose to love him selflessly which gave a message of selfless love . So overall this novel based story of Devdas movie is a heart touching story which made the audience cry and we got a message of how enmity between families destroy the life of two lovers. So this was the story which I choose to present. That's all for today , thank you and have a great day ahead
The Movie was directed in 2002 by a very famous Indian director Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Through movie we get a clarity about the characters of the story, moreover with the help of movies we get a better understanding about the emotion and we can easily connect to the story .

Wow @monz122, I really enjoyed reading this!
I’ve actually never seen Devdas before or read the novel, but your post painted such a clear picture that I almost felt like I was watching the story unfold.
The way you broke down the characters, Dev, Paro, and Chandramukhi, really helped me understand the emotional weight of the story. I was especially touched by what you said about Chandramukhi’s selfless love and how Devdas held on to Paro’s memory till the end. It’s so sad, yet so beautiful.
One thing that stood out to me was Paro’s sacrifice. The fact that she got married just for the sake of her family, but stayed emotionally loyal to Dev, speaks volumes. It made me reflect on how deep love can be, even in silence and distance.
Also, I like how honest you were about preferring to watch the movie rather than read the novel. I can totally relate to that. Sometimes, seeing a story play out visually just sticks with you longer. Your description of the movie makes me want to go find it and watch it too!
Thanks for sharing this heartfelt entry. I learned something new today through your lens, and that’s the beauty of this challenge 🌺
Well done!
