On the 8th of January, I officially embarked on my academic journey. It was my first day at the university. I did not really know what to expect. The first class was scheduled for 10 am but I got to school by 8. I guess I was super excited 😆
On getting to the venue for my lecture, I saw a lot of my friends from my secondary school. It was like a mini reunion. It was really crowded despite the fact that it was pretty early. I had to struggle to take a seat 😂
The class was CHM111 and the lecturer was very nice. He walked in calmly few minutes to 10 and waited for 10 am before he introduced himself. He was very kind and taught very well. I was surprised because I have heard a lot about lecturers' in the university. I know that the university is a tough battle field and everyone has to struggle to win.
[First Lecture]
It was a two-hour class. I sat with my friends from one of the secondary schools I attended. It was fun sitting by their side.
After the class, I moved around with some of my friends to get familiar with the university environs. We took a bus shuttle to another campus for our next class. The class was held in the main campus of the school which was about 9 kilometers and 21 minutes away from the Town Campus. We paid 300 Naira (2.29 Steem ) to the campus.
(First time in a bus shuttle)
It was my first time in a shuttle and I was very happy. It felt like an achievement to me, childish right? I started conversations with the girls sitting next to me and I discovered that they were in my department too. We exchanged contacts and I made new friends 😊
The bus took us right to the venue of the class. We alighted and got to the venue.
(Going to the venue)
We got there pretty late because we had to locate the shuttle terminal. Lecture was already going on, so we thought 😂
A young man - who we thought to be the lecturer gave some tips on how to thrive well in the university. He talked for about an hour. Everything went fine until he introduced a biology guide (according to him). He said it would help us with our exams. He spoke so well and trust me, I almost fell for it.
He actually did a discount for the first set of people to buy the book. People surprisingly bought it. Later on, we got to realise that he was not the lecturer. Our lecturer told us not to buy any material from anyone apart from him.
(Second lecture)
The guy tried to use us since we are new to the system. I'm happy I did not fall for it. We ended up not having any lecture. We felt really bad that we wasted our transport fare. But we could not do anything about that.
I took a bus and went home. That is it guys.
My happy-tired look
Life in the university is a different ball game. It's mentally straining especially if you attend a public university. I would share my experience so far with you in my next blog.
