Main Idea of the Movie

IMG_20250620_115034.jpg

Hichki is a story that challenges soceietys mindset about people who live with disabileities. The film revolves around Naina Mathur a passeionate and qualeified woman who has Tourette Syndrome a neuroelogical condition that causes sudden involeuntary sounds and tics. In her case it comes out as hiccup like noises.

Despite being rejected by 18 schools Naina doesnt give up on her dream of becoming a teacher. She finally gets a chance to teach but shes assiegned the most noteorious class in the school Class 9F. These students are from poor neigheborhoods and are treeated unfairly by the school system.

The movies core message is about fight for acceptance not only of others but of yourself. It teach us that what society call a weakness can be your biggest strength if you accept it work with it and let your talent shine.

Main Characters

|IMG_20250620_115140.jpg |Naina Mathur: A strong positive and determined woman who turns her "hiccup" into hope for others.
Students of 9F: A group of rebellieous but intelligent students who have been marginaelized due to their background.
Mr. Wadia: A senior teacher who believes that Naina and her class are both unfit for the school.
Nainas Parents: Especially her father who left when she was young and blamed her condition. Their strain relateionship is a touch part of the story.

Plot and Setting

The story is set in St. Notker's School located in Mumbai India a city full of energy noise and diversity. Most of the scenes take place inside the school building staff rooms and classrooms.

Naina is assigned Class 9F whose students come from slum areas. They are seen as troublemakers by the school and are always treated differently. Naina decides to win them over not through punishment but through love encouragement and creativity.

She uses fun and engaging methods to teach. For example she turns math into music and science into stories. Slowly the students begin to trust her and their potential starts to show. But of course the journey isn’t easy there are moments of setbacks bullying and resistance.

The film reaches a climax when her class particiepates in an inter school competition and surprise everyone by winning prove that where you come from does not define where you can go.

If I Were the Director

IMG_20250620_114912.jpg

If I had the opportunity to direct this movie I would add more background about Nainas childhood especially how she coped with Tourettes in her early school days. I would also include a follow up scene that shows the future of the 9F students maybe 5 or 10 years later to show the long-term impact Naina had on their lives.

Another small addition I would make is a scene showing other teachers learning from her and changing their own teaching methods. That would show how one person can be influence a whole system.

personl emotions

Watching Hichki truly moved me. It made me cry smile and feel hope all at once. Even though the movie is from India and I am from Pakistan the emotions and struggle feel very familiar. It remind me that kindness dreams and challenges have no borders.

Naina is such a role model. She made me believe that no matter what struggle we face we can always choosen to rise shine and make a difference in someone elses life.

This movie isnt just about teaching its about believe. Its about giving everyone a fair chance. Its about transform rejection into respect.
