" My Life as a Student "
I am @hudamalik20 from Pakistan. I hope you all are doing great in your life. Today, I am participating in this contest My Life as a Student or Worker in Steem4Nigeria Community.
Are you currently a worker or student? How does it feel being what you are currently?
Right now, I am a student. I am in the last year of my BSIT (Bachelor of Science in Information Technology) degree. This is my final year, and after this, my study life will be completed. As my degree is about to end, I am already preparing for a good job. I am working on myself and also learning from YouTube and other online platforms to gain more knowledge.
I am also learning different skills so that when my degree finishes, I can start working and enter into professional life. I am also busy with my final year project, which takes a lot of time. Once my final report checking is done, my degree will be officially completed, and then I will fully focus on starting my career.
In the future, I really want to do my MPhil degree. It’s one of my biggest dreams because I want to support my family and make them proud. I want to use my education in a practical and meaningful way, not just collect degrees, but actually become independent and financially strong.
My first priority is to do this degree from the University of Sargodha. But if I don’t get admission there, then I’ll go for the University of Lahore.
Right now, I feel satisfied with my student life. I am trying my best to learn as many skills and gain as much knowledge as possible.
What challenges have you faced being a student or worker? Do you sometimes feel like giving up?
Yes, being a student is not always easy. Sometimes, the study burden becomes too much. I feel like my studies are not helping me in a practical way. When there are too many papers, weekly tests, and assignments, it gets very stressful. Preparing for exams becomes really hard, especially when teachers give a lot of pressure and scold us or give back-to-back presentations.
At times, I feel that no matter how much I study, I won’t be able to do anything in professional life unless I learn skills. When I see others getting jobs just because of their skills, I feel a little demotivated and wonder if my studies are even useful.
Also, in the summer season, it's very hard to go to college in the heat. Sometimes I just feel like taking a break or some holidays because the heat makes it very difficult to travel and attend classes. So yes, there are moments when I feel tired and feel like giving up, but I try to stay strong and keep going.
What has helped you cope these challenges you faced as a student or worker?
When the study burden becomes too much and the course is very difficult, there are still some things that help me a lot. When teachers are supportive, they guide us well and help us understand the topics better. They reduce our stress and help us with assignments and presentations, which makes things easier.
Also, having good friends during student life is a big blessing. When we get helpful and caring friends, they support us in making presentations, notes, and assignments. We help each other and share ideas. We also have fun together, go out, talk to each other, and that makes the student life less stressful and more enjoyable. Friends really make tough times feel better.
Along with that, my family also supports me a lot. No matter how tired or stressed I am from college, my family always takes care of me. They ask about my day, prepare food, and motivate me with kind words. When I see their support and love, I feel stronger and want to work even harder to make them proud and happy.
What's your worst memory as a student or worker?
If I talk about my student life, I’ve always been an average student who usually passes with good marks, especially during exam days when I study at the last moment. In class, I was okay, and teachers did focus on me because they knew I had potential, even if I didn’t always study regularly. They were cooperative and supportive.
But my worst memory as a student happened during my BS IT second semester. In the first semester, I performed really well , I got a 3.38 CGPA and even topped my class. That result made me and my family very happy. But the second semester was very difficult for me.
I had subjects like Statistics and Linear Algebra, which I didn’t like at all. I'm not a math lover, so it was hard for me to prepare those subjects. Also, our Economics paper came out of syllabus, which made the situation even worse.
When the result of the second semester came, it was a very painful day for me. I remember I collected my result from the examination hall, and as soon as I saw the marks, I was shocked. Even though I didn’t fail, my marks were very low from class topper in the first semester to almost second last in the second.
I couldn't control my emotions. I left the exam hall and went straight to the class, and tears came into my eyes. I started crying silently, and then my best friends came to comfort me. They said, “It’s okay, you’ll do better next time. Don’t lose hope.” Their support really helped me in that moment.
What made this memory even worse was that my father is a government employee, and every year there’s a scholarship for children of government workers. But to apply, the requirement is 70% or above. My second semester percentage was 69% just 1% short.
Because of that, I couldn't apply for the scholarship that year. My father had high hopes and was confident I would qualify easily. But I couldn’t. That moment was very heartbreaking for me. I felt like I had disappointed him.
That whole phase put me into a lot of stress and depression for weeks, even months. I kept thinking, “Kaash thori si aur mehnat kar leti, to result acha aa jata.” But after that, I picked myself up and worked much harder in the next semesters. My GPA improved, but my CGPA was still affected because of that one bad semester.
That's it from today’s blog. I hope you liked it. With best wishes. Now I would like to invite:
@neelofer, @norat, and @eveetim to participate in this amazing contest.
