Conflict


Conflict is a situation characterised by an intense argument or an unvoiced disagreement over something important or a perceived injustice.

Causes of conflict

Differing values:
People with conflicting perspectives, values, or beliefs often have something to disagree about leading to conflict. Some disagreements come from competing interests, when one side thinks this should be used for this and the other side feels it should be used for that.

Communication breakdowns:
Poor communication often leads to misinterpretations because the idea was not properly expressed which creates a misunderstanding which could lead to conflict.

Struggle over power:
When the question of who is to control available resources emerges and more people are interested in holding the power.

In your own sentence, what do you think conflict means?

Conflict is a rift in a relationship caused by a disagreement over a real or perceived wrong; some are based on incompatible perspectives, values or opinions.

The "No gree for anybody" slogan is a local precursor for conflict in my immediate surroundings. It is a call to action that says, 'You must not yield to anybody'.

Mention at least 4 ways conflict can be resolved in the workplace, home or among friends

Conflict resolution at the workplace:

  1. Open Communication: Communication at work should be open, and the use of dialogue in simple, clear language should be encouraged among workers.
  2. Work ethics Establishing clear policies and Procedures as clear guidelines will go a long way to prevent the occurrence of conflicts.
  3. Mediation: always make use of a neutral third-party mediator to facilitate conflict resolution. An office like human resource management should address staff disagreement.
  4. Collaborative Problem-Solving: provisions should be made for staff to work together to find a mutually beneficial solution to existing disagreements.

Conflict resolution at home:

  1. Stay Calm and Patient: be a good listener by paying attention, and keep emotions under check as you approach the conflict calmly with the aim of winning back your family member and not the argument.
  2. Do not keep marles: work together to solve disagreements as quickly as possible without allowing the problem to escalate.

Conflict Resolution Among Friends:

  1. Talk It Out: Address the issue directly and openly discuss it with your friend.
  2. Apologize Sincerely: When your open talk shows that you are wrong, be quick to sincerely apologise and try to right the wrong.
  3. Learn from the Conflict: Use the experience as an opportunity to grow and improve relationships.

Have you been in conflict with anyone before? How was it resolved?

You know the normal girl thing. A friend said I said while in reality that she was the one who brought up the topic.

Yes, I have been in a conflict. The solution dragged on for some time till all involved agreed to sit down. The friend who was around during the conversation. She confirmed that I did not say anything, and in the end, we all found out that it was a case of misinformation and misunderstanding.

In my opinion, I believe conflicts should be solved as quickly as possible.
