Conflict from time immemorial has been a very delicate aspect of the society and part of human existence. There's no society that has ever lived without conflict, neither is there any home without it. The issue with conflict is that conflict itself is not even a problem, but how to resolve it. This is because if a conflict is not properly managed it may escalate into crisis or war.
In your own sentence, what do you think conflict means? |

Conflict is a disagreement or misunderstanding between two or more people. According to my peace and conflict lecturer, conflict may not be between people, it can be within oneself. For instance, one may have conflict of choice within oneself.
That's by the way, the most acceptable one is that conflict is between one or two people or between a group of people.

Conflict can be resolved through the following:
- Listen: Pay attention to details in order to identify the source of the conflict. There are times one needs to listen to the parties involved to ascertain where the source of the conflict is. Note, recognising the source of the problem can go a long way to bring a partial solution to the issue.
Identify the source of the conflict before looking for ways to resolve it. When you ascertain the cause of the problem, you can swing into action by addressing the issue.
After identification of the source, face the problem by addressing the matter immediately without taking sides. Let the party involved know their mistakes, before reconciling the parties.
Maintain an open mind: The place of communication is very important. That can only happen when the parties involved maintain an open mind without any grievances. Then let go of whatever caused the conflict, then focus on achieving the goal of the job or family, as the case may be.

Yes. How do I resolve it? Most times, I apply emotional intelligence. I sometimes let go of any issue that may have caused the conflict. This is because, sometimes, I look at the fact that conflict is not the solution, but understanding and proper communication helps to resolve conflict better.
As a matter of fact, I think through the issue and come to terms with the party involved, and then we settle by looking at both sides and find a landing for both of us.
In all of it, seeking peace at all cost is the best way to prevent conflict, conflict will never settle any issue rather it will bring more problems that may escalate into crisis.
