Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 75: My fundamental human rights
INTRODUCTION |
---|
Greetings distinguished Steemians, It is a fact that as humans we are entitled to certain freedoms and liberty which gives us certain entitlements and privilege to act and respond to situations in a certain way. These entitlements is the catalyst fostering justice, freedom and equality among members of a given nation and this is termed The Fundamental Human Rights. Despites the availability of these rights, it is observed that the contrary is prevailing among members of different communities. This vacuum is the based in which I really wish to thank the organizers of this contest for a well developed and timely topic "Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 75: My fundamental human rights"
FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS |
---|
Fundamental Human Rights can be defined as basic freedom in which every citizen of a country possessed and should not be disrupted by anyone. This rights ranges from Civil and Political Rights which include and not limited to the following:
Right to Life | Freedom of Expression | Freedom of Religion | Right to Vote and be Voted for |
---|
Etc. This rights are free and open to every citizens of a given country.
DO YOU THINK ALL THE CITIZENS HAVE THESE RIGHTS, OR IS IT ONLY MADE FOR THE RICH? |
---|
Ideally, every citizens of any country should have the same Rights and Freedom. However, it is not so in my country Nigeria. This is seen as most times the rich are always favored in the following ways;
- On the day of our 2023 election, in the same venue, they were calibers of people who were given freedom to vote their preferred candidates base on their financial reputations in the society.
- I have witnessed a police man searched and arrested a poor man in his house without any search or arrest warrants. Meanwhile, the rich are always invited to come to the police station.
- This inequality is also seen as the prison for a low profile person differs from that of an high profile person even when the high profile person might have committed a more severe offense.
They are more to these and this is a clear evidence that not all citizens have equal rights in my community.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN DEPRIVED OF EXPRESSING YOUR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS BEFORE? WHAT ACTION DID YOU TAKE? |
---|
I come from a part of the world where things like the human rights are only ideal on papers and in words but in practice are no where to be found. Permit me to share a story of how my human right was deprived and my actions thrown to the dust. Though I have been deprived of my rights on many occasions, this day is something I won't forget in a haste.
This happened during My country's national election in the year 2023. I went out in the morning to exercise my national franchise with a well credible candidate running through my head. Upon reaching the polling unit, there was serious uproar which made me curious to move closer. Upon arrival, I realized that people were forced to vote a candidate of the village and not their predetermined candidates. I seek the indulgence of the security personnel yet they all paid deaf ears. I called the electorial hotlines, but nothing was done so I took myself back home, sad and depressed.
MENTION AND EXPLAIN AT MOST THREE FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS OF YOUR COUNTRY. |
---|
My name is Marvelous Sunday Udofia and I am a Nigerian. Below are some of our fundamental human rights
THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND BE VOTED:
Here, every citizen of the country has equal rights and liberty to vote their preferred candidates as well as contest for any political positions in the country provided they meet the electorial requirements. However, this was what I was denied of during our 2023 National elections.FREEDOM OF RELIGION:
Since we have diverse religions in Nigeria, Every citizens of the country has full freedom in choosing the religion he/she finds interesting without pressures from the society or country at large. In essence, while others are Christians, some are Muslim and very few are African Religion Traditionalists.
- FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
Here in Nigeria, every citizens are given the liberty to speak out their minds but not in a manner that would bring damage to himself, the society or country at large. This could be achieved through using of the emergency response numbers, broadcasting stations, news paper or social media platforms provided it is not such that may destroy the country.
WHICH OF THE FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE LAW. |
---|
In my opinion, it is observed that most of the fundamental human rights are not really functioning especially in this part of the world. Permit me not to recall how I was deprived of voting, how security officials will arrest citizens for doing the same things they do everyday etc. However, though there are not functioning effectively, their relevance still stands. Thus, I am on the opinion that non of the fundamental Human Rights should be dropped rather, as a country our government should ensure that our fundamental Human Rights are not tempered and when tempered, justice should be looked upon.
