When I say something or pass a message and the person or persons listening to me get the message with a different meaning, this is said that I have been misunderstood. In most cases, these situations lead to an argument. Been Misunderstood could happen when the receiver of the information did not pay attention to get the detailed information, or when you already have a negative mindset about the person passing the information.

Been Misunderstood could also be seen in another scenario of assuming a person's action, which could be different from your assumptions. This happens most times when you predict people from afar, for instance, people who do not have a smiling face, you conclude them to be mean people.

Have you found yourself in such a situation, If yes, kindly share with us your experience.

Yes, I have been misunderstood many times, which I think a lot of people have had such an experience too. There must be one person or persons who will not understand you, even in a class, after a teacher's teaching, not everyone will understand him or her.

When I come to a new environment, I am not the type who jumps into people, wants to start a conversation or begin to make friends immediately. I study my new environment first, listen to people talk, and observe. What I do in my observing process is to keep calm or maybe smile if there is a need to smile.

So there was a new location I went to and started attending the church there. I took my time to observe the people there as usual. Whenever I come to church, some ladies come around to say hello. As a new member, I know they did that to make me feel welcomed and comfortable, which I appreciated. They also told me about the groups in church I could join, which I took my time to join.

When I knew the church mode of operating well, I joined a group and became active. Then some ladies told me how they see me as feeling too big because I never wanted to make friends with anyone, and always on my own. They said they never knew I was this friendly and down to earth, I was just laughing at all they said they i was.

How did you feel and how did you handle the misconception?

I was shocked to hear what they had misunderstood my personality to be because I did not show them a loud attitude when I first came. They judged me from afar and passed the information to other people who also believed them.

In handling the misconception, I explained to them that I am the kind of person who studies my environment and people around to know how they work, how to treat, tolerate and flow with them. Which I think I have known better. And they concur to have seen my real person, which is a good one.

Is there any advice you would love to give to your readers so they don't find themselves in your shoes.

You must not act on what you heard people say; sometimes, what you hear from other sources might not be complete information. Make inquiries before you conclude. Dont judge people when you have not met of have a conversation with them. Also be attentive to people when they talk, with a neutral mindset, where you get a bit or totally confused about their information, ask questions for clarification, if you need to correct any point, please do so calmly, so there won't be an argument.

When you are doing the right thing be yourself and dont feel bad when some people dont understandyou. No matter how they misunderstand you, if they are ready to get clarification, you can explain to them.
