**Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 75: My Fundamental Human Rights
Hello friends welcome to my blog
Fundamental human rights are the rights every person is entitled to have as a citizen of a country. They are supposed to guarantee the citizens' freedom and protection. These rights are universal, which means everyone is entitled to them regardless of race, nationality, ethnicity, culture, gender, religion or status. Also, these rights are inalienable which means that they can not be taken away from the person involuntarily or voluntarily.
Hypothetically, every person alive is supposed to have and enjoy these fundamental human rights irrespective of their wealth, financial or social status. Unfortunately, in reality, the enjoyment of these rights is influenced by wealth and the power to access resources.
For example, in my country the rich often have greater access to quality medical health care, better legal representation, quality education and better living conditions free from violence or discrimination. Whereas the poor citizens are constantly deprived of these basic and important rights. One profound example is the right to legal representation; in my country, Nigeria, those who can afford high-quality lawyers are more likely to receive a fair trial and get lesser penalties, thereby avoiding lengthy proceedings, whereas those without wealth may face unjust legal processes or stricter penalties.
Yes, I once applied for a job but was not hired after meeting up with all the employment criteria. It happened that their reason for depriving me of the Job was because I was not from their tribe, which was wrong since everyone has the right to seek employment without discrimination(Right to work). I was not given a fair chance. Rather, my tribe was prioritized over my qualifications.
I took no action but let it go and sought for job in another organisation that valued my skills and qualifications.
Some of the fundamental human rights of my country Nigeria are:
- Right to Life
- Right to a fair hearing
- Right to Freedom from Discrimination.
Right to life - Every citizen of Nigeria is entitled to life from the moment we are born. This right is inalienable. No citizen shall be intentionally deprived of it except in special circumstances of law such as an execution for a criminal offence. Unfortunately, incidents of extrajudicial killings as a result of communal crisis and by security forces continue to threaten and deprive citizens of Nigeria of this right.
Right to a fair hearing - Every citizen is entitled to a fair hearing in any court in Nigeria. A person shall not be convicted for any offence without being heard and fully represented either by himself or by a legal practitioner.
Right to Freedom from Discrimination - No citizen should be discriminated against based on their gender, religion, ethnicity, financial or social status or even their personal and political opinion. Regardless of this right, discrimination has become the order of the day in most areas of society. Those affected by this are mostly women and minority ethnic groups, which has led to debates on equality and social inclusion in Nigeria.
Fundamental human rights exist to grant freedom and protection to citizens of a country; I am not of the opinion that anyone should be removed outright. Rather, some of them should be reviewed and revised to suit our present society and prevent further abuse. A typical example is the right to freedom of expression, which has been misused to pass hate speeches and misinformation thereby causing chaos and violence.
I invite @gracyc, @rossnenye and @bela90 to particpate in this contest

It's a pity that human rights now is no more considered as important. Many people are deprived from this right making some of them feel outcast, rejected. Unlike the Albinos, this set of human beings are been discriminate alot in the country which is very bad.
The Albinos are not just the ones that suffer being discriminated against. Have you seen how they treat people with special needs? Human rights need to be reviewed and taken seriously to stop these abuses.
Thank you for stopping by and going through my post I appreciate
