My Neighborhood Watch #83 - Reporting Events Around us

Dear Steemians!, This ver week has really brought us a concerning news about student safety at this three major educational institutions in Akwa Ibom State. As I'm speaking, Many families and communities are so grieving the loss of students from both of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State University and Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Ikot Osurua.

University of Uyo And AKSU Incidents

University of Uyo Students During Procession

As of this week, many Students at the University of Uyo faced several tragic events where RIP post, Students Procession with the dismissed Soul Flyer around campus. And just as of last week, The Late SUG Director of Information of AKSU flyer was the one all over media with RIP as the school lost him to cold ❄️ hands of death just after his sign out few months back. This was a great lost to the school, community and the state indeed.
The main causes I observed were:

• Various illnesses affecting the students that leads to their sudden dismissed.
• Multiple accidents on their way, either returning home or back to Campus.
• InsecurityvIncidents involving a machete attacks on students during robbery (dating back to last year).

Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Situation

Here at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Ikot Osurua, the situation was more particularly serious due to:

• Armed robbery attacks on some targeting students.
• Serious Violence against students both in their homes and on the streets closed to campus.
• Multiple casualties from these criminal activities and night to night robbery.

These incidents occuring around the campus has caused many lives, leading to untimely death ☠️. Since last year, report of violence robbery, stabbing and shooting students to death as been circulating but no serious action was taken and just this week, A Male student of the campus was shot to death while being rubbed. The next day, reports of robbery of students at their residence of living near campus also circulate. This left the campus and students terrified.

The State Government Response

The state government according to reports says they has taken notice of these security concerns around the State:

• The Special Assistant to the State Governor on Student Matters Comr. Wisdom Emmanuel has visited all affected institutions, Meetings were held with both the Universities Vice-Chancellor and as well the Polytechnic Rector. Discussions was mainly focused on the Governor's plans to address these security challenges immediately.

Conclusion

This definitely has made the week particularly a difficult week for the educational community in Akwa Ibom State. The loss of these young lives with creative innovation minds is deeply troubling, and it also highlights the urgent need for the improved security measures at our educational institutions by the state and school management as well as the community. Since the government's involvement begins, it offers to us hope for positive changes to protect our students better in the future.
