Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 76: Advice to my younger self

in Steem4Nigeria4 days ago

Have you made some irrational decisions while you were much younger?

Yes, I have. My parents tried their best to enroll me into a big school here in Lagos State. In my class, my classmates had parents who were bankers and office workers but my mother was just a trader who sells in her container shop and my dad was a factory worker. So, I denied my parents all the time by lying to my friends that they were not my parents just because I also want to act like I had parents who work in the office but they do not.

Do you think you're now wiser and better than you used to be?

Yes, I am. Truly, getting older by age doesn’t mean one will be wiser but with the little experiences I have seen in this life, I can say that I am wiser than I used to be. I think I need to say that I was humbled by the teachings of life. Why was I even going to deny my parents in the first place?

Now, I understand that sooner or later, I will become a parent and I would never want my kids to deny me. This means I’m getting wiser and I understand the stages of life. That’s how it works and I will continue to grow.

What advice would you give to your younger self or a younger generation who are already in that stage of life you were once in?

I would have told my younger self to think before they make any decision but what if they think and still make the wrong decision? Firstly, I will advise my younger self to be themselves and not be like anyone. We’re now in the world that everyone want to be wanna be’s. They want to fake what they do not have. That’s why so many youths or young ones and being pushed to do things they wouldn’t normally do.

Also, take every step with God. I’m not trying to be religious here but if you go with God, you will surely grow. Before you make any decision, ask God to show and guide you. The little mistakes we make may become a big deal in the future.
Let’s be careful of the steps we take for the sake of tomorrow.

I’ll be inviting @dave-hanny @chilaw and @joan-na to be a participant of this contest.

Thanks for inviting me I just submitted my entry. It's not good for us to lye to our parents but we were comfortable in doing it when we were much younger.
