Don't worry, there's no deeper meaning behind it. Think of the verses as an ‘act of desperation’ because somehow nothing is working out as it should.
I don't know why the man looks familiar to you. He is a former colleague who is a talented musician, but has not (yet?!?) achieved world fame... ;-)
