Leather Bag Repair
Hello, friends! it seems to me that I the weekend had just arrived and now It's the middle of the wee,. well, life really flies fast especially when you're occupied.
My post for tonight is about the way I fixed my bag. It was a body bag that I got for free last December from one of the raw materials suppliers in our plant. And as for some, they know me that I fix things and I hate throwing them away.
Materials
By the way, the bag is just made of synthetic leather and a very light one. The lock was literally hanging by a thread. Haha. But it held few a few days. I used this body bag a few days already so I could wash my backpack.
The bag carries heavy things so I used my largest needle and a bag closer thread to sew it in.
The Process
With the use of a cutter blade knife, I opened the portion of the bag where the lock is sewn. The blade did not have a holder this time, and I was very careful not to hurt myself. The factory that made the bag used a strong thread but in my theory, it was not sewn in with a good allowance.
After cutting the messy thread, I used matches to burn the sides of it so it won't run loose again. The match is from a co-worker who kept it from last July's birthday celebration. I went out of the office building just to do it because I was afraid that fire alarms will go. The wind outside was pretty strong that made it impossible to light a match stick. Good thing there's a bucket, and I did the burning inside so the wind won't disturb me on what I am doing.
Getting back to the bag, I turned it inside out so I can place it better. Then I checked it on the right side and stapled it in place. This might be funny for most of you but this is all I have in this place. I was also thinking that staple wires can be drawn easily later when I am finished working.
Checking everything and was all okay, I went to get my largest needle and a bag closer thread. The thread's color doesn't go with the bag's but it's okay because I will be using it under and I hoped It won't be seen later.
The needle is huge, a little tight to push in but the height of the needle helps much for gripping. Since the bag is just made of synthetic leather, sewing was not as hard as sewing real leather. I sewed back and forth using a running stitch and tying a knot to secure it in place.
Comments on my own Work
I was discouraged that when I turned it right side up, it was not the way that I wanted, but such is life, full of disappointments, At least it will be held strong and that it won't be loose again.
Even with disappointments, I am happy with the result of my repair with the bag. by the way, I did last August 25, 2021. I might post another repair next time, our friend who is a room spacer in my mother's house. His bag which is newly bought broke after just a week's usage and asked me to repair it.
Now I am still using the bag I repaired and am happy with it.
This is all for today and see you around
