A Couple of Rare Herons
OK, sorry, I got nervous with this one because i thought it would fly away and it did.
I looked this one up on Google and apparently it is a Yellow Crowned Night Heron, I had never seen this bird before. It was not nervous at all and I got to around eight feet from it before it flew away. Now I wonder why it is called a night heron? I saw it around eleven am so it can't be that it is nocturnal.
Well I kept on walking and then I saw this guy in the water probably fishing:
These pictures are of the same bird even though it looks like its different birds, the sun played its part here. I looked it up and it is either a Blue Heron or a Purple Heron, I had not seen these before either. These herons always turn up in these months fleeing from the cold I guess. Mostly it is black or white ones. Also as you can see there is a plastic bottle in one of the pictures, this is most unfortunate, but some people just can't put their trash where it belongs.
I am not a great bird watcher but I do enjoy watching these birds especially when they take up flight, they actually look beautiful. During this walk I also came upon three squirrels and they pelted me with ripe almonds, seems they only eat the green ones.
The name of the one you show is buck. You seem very familiar but I have named the animal in my language. I really like the animals you have shown. These animals are now abundant in winter. Thanks for introducing us to beautiful animal photography.
