Em, The hut had become a chat haunt, a gossip reeler, a light chat room or a vent for the early morning cool air. Their once-weary faces softened and were now filled with smiles and laughter, filled with a sense of community. In their midst sat the most serious looking teacher, she had glasses and a friendly smile. Next to him stood another, wearing a black peci (cap) and emanating an air of religiousness and authority.

Behind there were a few parked student motorcycles and a few zinc-moosafir-e-madarsa free-standing buildings; all in all giving an impression of a simple but dedicated effort to educating the youth. One of the teachers in the background was in a mask, reminding everyone that health habits still trailed the pandemic to some degree.

They are not only teachers, but moral teachers and role models to their students. Overall though they are seen to be close friends and continue to live as close neighbours to each other indicating they still have many of the same feelings about workplace togetherness.

They had just finished helping the students with the regular recitation of Yasin and listening to the sermon in the morning, it was that day. These are some of the activities aimed at developing religious ties and reinforcing Islamic values among the students.

For all the narrowness of their world, they are never shortened of being Yiddish fargenigon. The little hut is a mute spectator to the zeal of these teachers, who despite such adversities, are still working hard to teach the future citizens of the country with love and dedication. Those teachers feel teaching is not only a job, it’s a calling. This image shows a small part of the simple but worthwhile life of teacher who taught the children from almost every hamle four to 12 of them in every makeshift classes and containers.”
