DIY Solving Mid-term Project - Classes of Food.
Classes of Food
Hello friends, parents and kid lovers. I am excited to inform you that my daughter's midterm project came back rumpled but with a nice score, as expected. We made all 10 points with a thumbs up as extra toppings to it.
If you will love to see how I made the palm tree, this is a link to the post
The encouraging score from the matchstick collage prompted my publishing this representative art form collage, depicting the six classes of food.
Here is the sample provided by the school as a guide for us to use. On the sample, the cardboard was split into six, and each segment was filled with items representing the different classes of food.
Like the matchstick collage, this project also had a weight of 10 marks, and my plan was to get all 10.
Needed tools and materials
A cardboard will be the canvas, while different materials will be used to represent the different sub-components in each group. The materials will be glued to the cardboard and labelled for easy identification. When possible, I will use the real material, but when such is not possible, a substitute material will be used.
Material | Quantity | Description |
---|---|---|
Cardboard | 1 | half a cardboard |
Glue | 1 | small top bond |
Rezor blade | 1 | for carving |
Scissors | 1 | for cutting |
Pencil | 1 | for drawing outline |
Crayons | pack | for colouring |
Other materials used in this project were rice, beans, garri, egg, different coloured cardboard, palm oil etc.
Procedure
I had to get the plain cardboard ready and divide it into six places. Each segment will carry one of the classes of food to be displayed. When possible, more than one item will be placed in each segment to show the different success we can get the food group.
At this point, I had to label each segment and glue in items representing the food class. I worked on the carbohydrates column where rice, corn and garri were displayed. These are foods that give us energy.
I then moved over to the protein column, where I was still working with beans. I was thinking about milk but could not come up with a creative way to represent it.
Adding yam completed the carbohydrate column, and I love the way the yam came out. Orange and tomatoes gives us vitamins, while we get fat and oil from Blueband.
It is advisable to drink plenty of water,r and EVA is one of the well-known brands of packaged water.
I added palm oil in the fat and oil column, carrot 🥕 to the vitamins section while onion and cucumber 🥒 provides is with minerals.
I was hoping to place a fish in the space under the protein column and some vegetables under the minerals
I am equally hopeful that my effort will yield great results. I promise to show you the result of this artwork.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
In one word, you have presented it very well in your post. And another thing is that you have made the palm trees very nicely. And made a list of different types of food. All in all very nice

Wow, here you go again. This project is challenging, it seems they are giving parents because this is not age appropriate for your little baby apart from the information it will pass to the children.
Yes, it was tasking and time consuming but the effect it has on the children's understanding of the six classes of food surpasses all.
