🏵️One picture, a thousand stories-🏵️

Trees are our best friends. When people are looking for a cool place to stay in the scorching heat, trees provide shelter. Today's film depicts one such story.

At the end of the month of Baishakh, the sun blazes fiercely. From the asphalt roads of the city, waves of heat rise like fire. The city’s rickshaw pullers, with towels wrapped around their necks, wipe away sweat as they rush toward their destinations with passengers. Shopkeepers sit under fans, tending to their shops. Pedestrians walk along the shaded edges of the streets. Some people are waiting at the bus stand, enduring the scorching heat as they wait for their buses.

My friend Fahim and I were at the Mohakhali bus stand. After finishing college, I too was standing by the roadside, waiting for a bus in this sweltering weather. And it was then that I noticed the sight of people rushing about despite the heat.

A little away from the bus stand, I saw a small kathgolap (frangipani) tree. Beneath its shade stood a young man, and next to him sat a motorcycle rider. At such a hot time, everyone searches for a bit of shade. This picture beautifully conveys the message that trees are truly our silent friends. When no other shelter is available, trees quietly provide a refuge under their branches.

Because Dhaka is such a busy city, it lacks sufficient greenery. Everywhere you look, you only see tall buildings. It feels as though these buildings trap the heat of Baishakh even more. Yet, people’s rush never stops. Despite the heat, everyone continues on, caught up in their busy lives.

Seeing this small moment of people seeking shade, I remarked to Fahim, “Look, in the villages we are so much more at peace. No matter how hot it gets, we can always rest under the trees. Sitting under a tree, a cool breeze soothes our bodies. But looking at this city, even though people yearn to enjoy that rural peace, it’s not possible for them. Still, because of the demands of life, they remain here in Dhaka, rushing forward despite all obstacles in the hope of building a better life.”

That’s why we should plant more trees in the empty spaces of the city. These trees silently benefit us in countless ways.

What made that picture special?

This picture shows the scene of people seeking a little shade during the heat of Baishakh. Even under a small tree, people stand under the tree to find a little cool environment. And these actions continue to help us in this way. The altruism of the tree is seen in the picture.

Was it any special event, or something that quickly caught your eye?

Even in this heat, people are running around in the pursuit of their livelihood. And in the midst of this short walk, people were looking for a little shelter. Where they would get a little cool environment from this intense heat. And that matter caught my eye.

Did it remind you of Any story, or Inspire you to write one for our story lovers??

Seeing this scene, I remembered those memories of rural life. Where in the intense heat, everyone would come and sit under the tree. And we would enjoy a very cool environment. Today, seeing people standing under a small tree in the city, I remembered the story of taking shelter under the tree during the heat as a child.

Was it taken by you or any professional photographer?

I took the picture myself. I love photography. But I like the kind of photography that tells a story the most. It is said that every picture tells a story of real life. Today, this picture of mine also tells a story of real life.
