l would be sharing how to prepare my native food called Ikoko, which is prepared with wateryam.
Brief introduction about water yam
Wateryam is a tuber crop that is grown in the tropics area; wateryam comes directly from farms; it is a perfect source of fibre and is also high in manganese and potassium.
Water yam is rich in fibre, and it plays a good role in the metabolism of fat. Water yam is packed with nutrition, so friends go for water yam in place of ordinary yam.
Health benefits of water yam
- Wateryam is a good source of antioxidants.
- It is good for lowering blood pressure.
- It is good in the treatment of diabetes.
- It is easy to digest, unlike ordinary yam.
Ingredients in preparing this native food are

- Pepper
- Palm oil
- Crayfish
- Season cube
- Saint leaf
- Onion
- Salt
- Prewinkle
- Water
- Fish
*Preparation and procedure cooking of Ikoko
Step 1
I peeled the water yam and with the aid of a grater, I blended the water yam after peeling until it was in a gel-like texture
Step 2“
I dried my pot and put my palm oil inside the pot then added onions, grated pepper, and crayfish, stirred for 5 minutes and added water to boil

Below is My grinded pepper mixed with crayfish, and next is my chopped Onions which was added to the pot of palm oil and stirred for 5 minutes to fry.
Step 3
Then,l moulded the grated water yam into smaller balls and added them to the pot. After which, I covered the pot and allowed it to cook for 45 minutes.
Step 4
After a good cook, it was ready to eat, and I served it tasted delicious.
