Hello everybody! We continue our virtual tour of St. Petersburg and today I will tell you where we will go next. After a long tram ride along Zagorodny Prospekt, we noticed an unusual building on the corner of the street, it attracted our attention with a huge signboard.

ONLINE REFERENCE: The Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic in St. Petersburg holds unique exhibits telling about the history of the development of this harsh territory and the scientific discoveries made. The first exposition of the museum was assembled back in 1930, although scientists began talking about the need to create such an exhibition back in the 20s. At that time, there was no separate building for the exhibits, they were stored in the basement of the All-Union Arctic Institute, from where they were removed only during the next exhibition.

On the front of the building was written "Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic". I don't know why, but my daughter offered to go there herself. We got off the transport at the nearest stop and went to inspect this museum.

According to the historical information, the museum building used to be St. Nicholas Church. In the 30s of the last century, the temple building was transferred to the museum. At that time, the government had the idea of creating such an exposition, since another active phase of polar research was taking place in those years.

First of all, I photographed the museum from different angles. The weather that day did not spoil the sun, so this corner of the street did not look very presentable. However, even then the museum building looked solemn and promising.

After buying tickets and getting under the arches of the museum, I let out an exclamation of admiration. At the first inspection of the exposition from afar, I realized that we had not visited this place in vain. The tour was going to be interesting and my daughter and I began to inspect the exhibits.

According to its layout, the museum hall is a large open space under a high dome. On the ground floor there is an exhibition dedicated to Arctic exploration, and on the second floor, where a side staircase leads, there is an Antarctic exhibition area.

In today's collection of photos, there is only a small section of the lower floor. Tomorrow I will continue showing the museum exhibits and tell you in detail about what is there. We are waiting for information about the flora and fauna of the polar zones, as well as gorgeous layouts and dioramas. And that's it for today!

Привет всем! Продолжаем нашу виртуальную экскурсию по Петербургу и сегодня я расскажу, куда мы направимся дальше. После длинного путешествия на трамвае по Загородному проспекту, мы заметили необычное здание на углу улицы, оно привлекло наше внимание огромной вывеской.

СПРАВКА ИЗ СЕТИ: Музей Арктики и Антарктики в Санкт-Петербурге хранит уникальные экспонаты, рассказывающие об истории освоения этой суровой территории и сделанных научных открытиях. Первая экспозиция музея была собрана еще в 1930 году, хотя о необходимости создания подобной выставки ученые начали говорить еще в 20-х гг. В то время отдельного здания для экспонатов не было, они хранились в подвальных помещениях Всесоюзного арктического института, откуда их извлекали только в период проведения очередной выставки.

На фронтоне здания было написано "Музей Арктики и Антарктики". Не знаю, почему, но дочь сама предложила сходить туда. Мы вышли из транспорта на ближайшей остановке и отправились на осмотр этого музея.

Согласно исторической справке, здание музея раньше было Никольской церковью. В 30-е годы прошлого века здание храма передали в ведение музея. У правительства тогда назрела идея создания подобной экспозиции, так как в те годы проходила очередная активная фаза полярных исследований.

Первым делом я сфотографировал музей с разных сторон. Погода в тот день не баловала солнцем, поэтому этот угол улицы выглядел не очень презентабельно. Впрочем, даже тогда здание музея смотрелось торжественно и многообещающе.

Купив билеты и попав под своды музея, у меня вырвался возглас восхищения. При первом же осмотре экспозиции издалека, я понял, что мы не зря посетили это место. Экскурсия предстояли интересная и мы с дочкой принялись осматривать экспонаты.

По своей планировке зал музея представляет собой большое открытое пространство под высоким куполом. На первом этаже расположена выставка, посвященная исследованию Арктики, а на втором этаже, куда ведёт боковая лестница – Антарктическая зона экспозиции.

В сегодняшней подборке фотографий лишь небольшой участок нижнего этажа. Завтра я продолжу показ музейных экспонатов и подробно расскажу о том, что там есть. Нас ждёт информация о животном и растительном мире полярных зон, а также шикарные макеты и диорамы. А на сегодня у меня всё!
