Rajshahi University is one of the oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions in Bangladesh. Located southwest of Rajshahi city, its history is rich, and its contribution to education is immense. Below is a brief overview of the history of Rajshahi University:

Establishment:

Foundation: Rajshahi University (RU) was established on July 6, 1953. It is the second-largest public university in Bangladesh.

First Vice-Chancellor: Dr. I. H. Mohammed was appointed as the university’s first Vice-Chancellor.

Purpose of Establishment:

Rajshahi University was founded to promote and improve education in the northwestern region of then East Pakistan. At that time, access to higher education in this region was very limited, and the establishment of the university helped to alleviate this crisis.

Campus and Infrastructure:

Initial Campus: In the early days, the university operated from a few rented houses in the city of Rajshahi. Later, a permanent campus site was selected.

Permanent Campus: The university's permanent campus was established on approximately 753 acres of land adjacent to Rajshahi city. It now offers modern facilities for education and research.

Movements and Struggles:

1969 Mass Uprising: The students of Rajshahi University played a significant role in the political movements and the liberation struggle of Bangladesh. They actively participated in the 1969 mass uprising and the 1971 Liberation War.

Role in the Liberation War: Many students, teachers, and staff members of the university gave their lives during the war. To honor their sacrifices, the university has built a memorial monument.

Education and Research:

Since its establishment, Rajshahi University has taken significant steps to improve the quality of education. The university offers education under various faculties, including science, arts, social sciences, and law. It also plays a notable role in research across various fields.

Today, Rajshahi University continues to operate successfully as one of Bangladesh’s oldest and most important institutions, contributing significantly to the country's higher education and research development.

The university was built by the British before the formation of Bangladesh, and currently more than 40,000 students are studying in this university.

That day I roamed around the university area and also went to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Rajshahi University (RU) is one of the most beautiful campuses in Bangladesh. Its sprawling grounds, trees, lakes, and natural beauty captivate both students and visitors.

From the university’s entrance to the main administrative building, wide roads lined with green gardens enhance the campus's charm. At the heart of the campus, the Shaheed Minar and Bangabandhu Mukta Mancha serve as key locations for student activities and gatherings.

The gardens and lakes surrounding various faculty buildings and residential halls provide ideal spots for study or relaxation. In the winter, the mist-covered campus, the blooming trees in spring, and the fresh greenery during the monsoon all add to the university's natural beauty.

The serene beauty of RU not only helps students focus on their studies but also provides mental tranquility.
